Well some of you may remember back in June i got caught speeding on the A65 clapham bypass 102.2 mph in a 60. I had a court date on the 26 October and after reading all the info pleaded guility by post. Alas this was not to be and i received a new court date, today the 16th. After much thought and finding out a solicitor would be around 600-800 quid decided to represent myself. So this morning at 9.45 i gave em my speech, ate a lot of humble pie, produced a letter from my boss saying the usual stuff and awaited the verdict.
42 DAY BAN and £250 FINE, and NO points.
Good result i think...........

Good on ya, takes guts to stand up to em, solicitor wouldn't have done much better, 42 days better than 6months:spin:

You have been incredibly lucky I'd say and I don't think you should have been sent the paperwork to plead guilty by post as you well exceeded the limit. Slow down!!

That road is very well policed and I can't blame 'em- bikers are dying or getting hurt very often over the summer.
I'm no angel myself, but tend to keep away from that locality on a weekend.

It could have been far worse but I guess your insurance will go up, although there are specialists who can get premiums down. Hope public transport is up to scratch!

I have never tried to defend doing that speed and on that road of all roads. I lost the plot for a while and payed the price. Should have known better:grump:

Standing up in court was not as bad as you think. I am no orator but i was suited and booted, went in with right attitude and was honest in what i said. I agree that a solicitor could not have done any better. Also it was Skipton court aswell which is renowned for it's dislike of bikers.

Probably will, but the £600-800 i didnt spend on a solicitor more than covers it :running:

Happens to most of us- nice day, empty road, nice Duke- what could be more natural? So easily done!

I've just got my court date through - 18th of December so any advice would be welcome. Also don't think that a solicitor will help much as I'm not trying to 'get out of it' - just to lessen the severity of the rogering I get.
I'll send you my details by PM.
Hopefully the Christmas spirit around the magistrates court will extend its goodwill my direction.

No it isn't young man. It's within the 6 month time limit and he was doing over double the speed limit which is a factor and I fear the penalty could be a lot worse. Get as much of a character reference as you can, letters from boss etc etc, they will know your income and set a fine accordingly - I'll slow down too from now on :o
