probably not one of my best ideas, but, i want to make my own tank cover
i have some material and the threads and needles and a sewing machine for good measure.
i just need a plan - the paper kind that you cut round etc...

any ideas where to pick one up, i've had a trawl over the interwebs but maybe i'm looking for the wrong thing

I doubt one exists, you'll probably have to make your own pattern. Try using sheets of light card and a pencil, see what you can come up with.
I find a coat of paint easier myself :)

Rosie my partner seems to have got deeply into knitting and crochet, she might be able to knock something up!!

i already have some nice faux fur - red with black spots
not exactly flame retardant, but i'm sure i'll figure out a way round that
:)

You'd have to change your username, to . . . oh, hang on a moment, no you wouldn't, would you ... :)

I know you want to make your own ladybird one, but how about a 2nd hand one and re-cover it :)

How about buying an old knackered tank cover and unpicking the stitching the resulting template must be the right size.........

I'd have thought cutting out thin card or newspaper to make a pattern would be a lot less work.

pins and patience did the trick :)

now my nice fixed tank won't get scratched

dual layer approach, should have taken pics as i went along, made a base 'glove' from black fleecy material so as not to scuff the tank with the back of the fur material - this has elastic running all round the edge so just poings under the edges of the tank.
black onto the bike and with the fur reversed pinned it into shape with darts an all.
stitched the darts and cut the fur and then pinned it right side up to the black on the bike again and then back to the sewing machine to put the two together.

then it was midnight :) so popped the cover on and put the seat back and went to bed.

needed petrol this morning though...however just un-poinged the cover at the front and filled up :D

I've got an old GRP pattern tail cover if you need one?

FOC - just PM me an address and i'll stick it in the post

nope, my work is done (took me 3 years to get round to it, and did it in about 4 hours). i've got the seat pod in the cupboard somewhere.

shame i didn't think about it's waterproofness ... i have a big wet furry monster now :D

update on various tank cover reactions

girl nearly fell off her moped this morning doing a double-take at some lights
i've had one person run out in the road to stroke it when pootling through fulham broadway
one cyclist admiring it
and a white car/van driver pull up closer and lean out of his window to stroke it this morning too
