Right,

I'm looking for a new Monster, I want a "litre" bike.

I have seen a stunning S4 (Senna) and also an equally nice S4R (Blue/White).

The S4 has a slightly higher spec (Termi's) but they're similar miles and both 2003.

What say you? Do they ride differently?

Thanks,

Tom

I'm not going to be much liked for this but hey I don't work here anymore.
The S4 IMO is the worse monster Ducati made.
Dont get me wrong its still great but not as great as the others.

S4R IMHO. Cornering on the S4 is always going to be compromised by the cans unless it comes with high-levels.

There seem to be a lot of guys here with S4s that have problems. I don't know if the R and RS are going to suffer the same problems when they get to the same age, but you've got a few years to go if you get an R.

S4R wins it. It's almost as good as the S2R that it's based on.:D

:woot:

At least it's not as bad as the RS with an oil cooler (rock-catcher) 2 inches behind the front wheel :fou:

It does come with High levels although I'm more of a commuter than a track warrior.

What sort of problems do S4's tend to suffer from. Sorry. Not new to Monsters but new to the big bikes!

problems you say , how long have you got ?

if your realy unlucky you may get the horror of rocker wear on the S4 (however looking at on 03 bike that realy shouldn't be a problem)

the R as well as the few extra CC's has bigger valves (probably, i cant actually make head nor tail of that bit)

im not so much of a fan of the SSS

No problems with my 03 S4.......I wouldn't have one of those new fangled S4R thingemies.........so there :mand: (just feeling a bit picked on)

Yeah me either.

I thing the S4r looks really gearly with its little exhausts stuck on one side.

I've got high level termis on mine, and it looks far far beastier.

As for problems, I have only had the usual. Leaky tank, little bit of oil leaking from somewhere or other, running a bit lumpy with termis and open airbox.
Nothing that ALL other monsters don't have!

Get the S4, and spend the extra grand tricking it up a bit.

Yer speakin' my kinda language!

I have to admit, I don't like the S4R exhaust config either, it looks a bit puny with the Termi's on.

Yeah I've got to stick up for the S4. Mine's 2001 with high level termis, 19k on the clock, commute all year. Just been serviced and now running far better than when I bought it a year ago. No problems noted. Stuck a 14t front sprocket on it too which has transformed in town dawdling.
S4, S4, S4...:woot:
