Wonderful !! On the way to work this morning, waiting at the roundabout for traffic and Mr impatient obviously doesn't want to wait until I've pulled out and promptly drives into the back of me !!
Obvious signs are smashed number plate/indicators and tray, but it was a pretty hard knock which smashed his passats number plate and bumper off.

What 'invisible' damage should I look for guys ?
Wheel bearings ?
Exhaust being shunted forwards?
it's a 1995 M600.....will they bother to repair ??

Bugger !!

Check that the frame is still square. That would probably be the main thing. If there is more than cosmetic damage don't be surprised if your insurer wants to write the bike off. Due to the age of the bike the insurers probably won't think it is worth very much money.

hell. sorry bout your incident. what a damned idiot wud drive into the back of beautiful dukati.

without actually lookin at it pretty hard to know exactly the extend of the damage but if i was you i wud push for the insurance company to make it a write off.

the reason for that being that the frame cud have suffered deformation n that is not somethin u can pick up by lookin at it sometimes. it is also pretty hard to measure that your wheel hasnt gone a bit banana shape. look at the bearings n see if the show sign of sudden impact. also the exhaust pipes cud have been deformed.

for me the main things are: 1. frame 2. wheel. 3. swingarm

wheel n swingarm can be replaced (check that the mounting of the swingarm on the engine case hasnt been affected either). for the frame to be repaired you need one hell of a professional n precise job.

it depends on how bad it is damaged n whether you wanna take chances with it. i wud claim write off compensation. however bout the insurance side of things i dont know a lot. other people will surely provide more helpful info.

hope u get back on the road soon

What about your sore neck, pulled muscles in your arms and damage to your knee ligaments which means you cant work for 6 months and your life will never be the same again?

Keeeerching!

Oh god - another one - what is it with these bloody car drivers??? My hypermotard suffered a similar fate three weeks ago...

I would personally advise you to go the insurance route - it wasn't your fault, your bike could be a write off and given its age that's likely to be the outcome - get it checked properly and push for a full replacement. Did you involve the police? If not I would adivse you to fill in the self reporting form then you have a crime number and police reference number for the insurance etc.

Good luck and my commiserations...

Last year my mate failed to see me stopping to turn left (we where in Monaco) and hit me square behind. He was on his BMW R1150RT and me on my S4R.

Total damage to my bike: crappy plastic chain guard ripped off.

Total damage to his: front wheel, front tyre, lower wishbone on paralever, u/j on wishbone, headlight all replaced. Bill in excess of 2000 Euros.

We think he hit my rear sprocket with his front wheel while my Ventura rack took out his headlight.

This was after I had taken endless p1s$ taking about whether my Duke would make the trip with the uber reliable Kraut bike.

Yeah, I'm almost hoping for a write off, although it's only done 10 grand on the clock and (was) in pretty condition, I don't suppose any of that will be taken into consideration when valuing................how much is it worth do you think ?
Thanks for all the good wishes, I bet the sun shines all next week now !!

Although I'm supposed to be getting a hire bike whilst mine is being repaired/buried..............wonder what it'll be ??

I ended up with a 1200 Bandit - it's a scream!!! All the best with the claim...And no - I don't think the sun will shine again for weeks!!!

Bad luck, my mate got hit from behind a few weeks ago, luckily her other half could fix the bike (he built it originally). Don't think you'll get much for the bike because insurers do like to keep the payout low. You really should get checked out it's so easy to do damage to yourself and not realise till it's too late to do anything about.

Sorry to hear about your accident jake - I hope it gets sorted out soon.

PS Chappers -

If you can find me an M600 for £1000 I'll snap your hand off - the DD racers seem to have acquired them all. I haven't seen any for less than £1500

too right Anne!

If they write it off, please can I have first go at the salvage... a cheap, standard, cosmetically challenged 600 is just what I need to go racing DD.

oh, and sorry about your misfortune Jake...get it checked out properly, like Jerry said, I too still suffer as a result of a rear end shunt ten years ago.

I got rear ended in March. The damage was only cosmetic. The bill for the damage came to £1400 and the hire bike (6 weeks) £3600. They could have bought me a 695 one for that.

Don't forget the physiological aspect of this traumatic incident and get any injury properly assessed.
They (usually) never pay out what its worth, I had some long and fruitless arguments with insurers. They said it's worth this much, fair enuff I said go buy another for that price, it's the current market value they said, no its not here's the current market value... circular and pointless but I was pissed off.

Start cutting pics of bikes with prices attached out of newspapers/MCN/tinternet then forward these to said insurance company if your bike is a total loss, will give you a bit aof leaverage on the price you get for your bike.

That's why the personal injury bit comes in useful, it can make up the shortfall! Not that I'd advocate it obviously, after all it's the injury claims that put up our premiums, but on the other hand if you're already paying for it you may as well make the most of it. I got damaged in a car years ago and if I'd known how it would affect me I would have really gone to town.
As it is we've got another claim going through having been rear ended by a bus, unfortunately it's part and parcel of the insurance thing these days.
Clive was pushed into claiming by our company and actually it's a good job he did as he's getting physio and had done quite a bit of damage without realising. So go for it and hopefully if you've got damage it will be sorted and as a bonus you could also get a better bike!

Personal injury bit can take some time to come through tho'. You want to watch who does the assessment too, a mate who is incidentally an orthopaedic surgeon said I'd have ongoing problems with my shoulder, the insurance appointed assessor reported it would be good in 6 months. Done the physio, still isn't right after 2 years and really needs a surgical fix.
Problem is the insurers would rather use a guy with GP experience who writes a nice report rather than a real specialist.

Yup I got done for my first claim, had a guy whose own neurological department had tried to find out what was wrong with me when I was paralised down one side all they found was destroyed discs in my neck. He insisted it was neurological, nothing to do with the accident! I got very little and I'm still having major problems 10 years down the line.

well, got a S2R as my hire bike, a bit pokier than the old 600 it has to be said, had letters from legal people, been to the Doctor and have torn knee ligaments + mild whiplash, still no news on the bike being assessed yet though !

Anything you can swipe off the bike before the assessor has a look might be useful. Recently lost a brand new set of termis on my write off that weren't covered on insurance. Assessor saw them, noted them, and they were taken away with the bike, could've swapped em if i'd known saving myself a fair few quid!:hissy:
Took me about 1 month all in all to get a new bike, that was phoning up about it every single day!
Keep pestering them an best of luck with it!
