I’m considering doing what I suppose a lot of people have thought about; putting a 916 single sided swing arm on my old ‘96 monster 600. I’m attempting to gather some information and wondered if anyone on here has done this conversion already.

If so what I’d like is details of the machining work required at the engine casing pivot point and the fabrication work at the top shock pivot mounting point. Also is there any issues with sprocket alignment or can these be addressed with the machining work?

Thanks in advance any useful information or links would be appreciated.

Ta.

Looks like it would b easier to stuff a 600 engine into a single swinging arm chassis. Don't think the black and decker, angle grinder and MIG would be quite up to this... Probly need a few files too and a bigger hammer

Try costing the conversion (proper job - not DIY bodge) and you may think twice? There are bolt on kit's that make the job easier - if not a lot (if any) cheaper, but it's still a lot of work.

There's plenty of more cost effective & better (IMO) mods you can do to a 600, such as fit better quality rear shock, upgraded forks & brakes - or even slot a bigger motor or tune the one you have. The 916 rear won't drastically improve the handling anyway TBH, especially if the front isn't modded to match. Many simply swap to SS rear for looks or to allow routing of an underseat exhaust system.

Quite a few here, but they have also gone for a bigger engine, usually changed the forks, uprated brakes, yokes etc, added better suspension etc etc.

This 'was' a 1998 M600, before it had a 916 18ct gold plated single sider added, 998 forks, plus 900ie engine and a few other mods - completed & has been AK's road hack since January 2004. He started it in spring 2003, doing a few bits at a time till winter set in & he had more time, its now seen better days but still draws some looks when we are away from our home patch :)

That's what i want! What are the main issues when doing the swing arm swap? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
