I can't be doing with the standard high bars. I could buy bespoke monster stuff but I'm too cheap for that.

Anyone using clip ons off other bikes? Ideally something that will grip the forks in their standard position, without raising or lowering them any. I'd rather not have 'em below the yokes either. Tall order?

Yeah, I looked. Let me in on the answer so I don't have to search through all the ramblings - again.

50mm, R1 GSXR1000 ZXR400,
other than that(above/below bars etc.)it's complicated enough that you need to be prepared to read the ramblings, because, despite my big heart, I'm not typing everything I've learned so far for a 3rd time so someone else can ignore it(sorry).
The easy answer is buy the right ones because the pain you'll go through is way beyond a hundred quid's worth unless you have an engineering shop in your shed which I suspect you don't, 'cos you're asking these questions.

My other bike wears parts from half a dozen other models of bike. I have done this sort of thing before but I would rather use a bit of ingenuity than toss money at bling.

So R1 clip-ons? (you try searching for R1 on here BTW). Look clean enough - what's the problem with them then?

I found this: http://http://www.ukmonster.co.uk/monster/showthread.php?t=23431&highlight=clip+ons

which suggests a few options. Personally, I'd spend a few extra pounds and benefit from the experience here rather than plough my own furrow. I hope the project is a success.
