Hi,

I've recently bought a new battery for my monster after the old one dying. After a few longish journeys on the new battery the bike stalled and wouldn't turnover. I saw that the battery had boiled dry. I've now topped this up and it started ok but I'm concious that it drys up on long journeys. Is this overcharging? Has anyone had this experience and know how to fix it?

Thanks,

Tom.

It may be a regulator / rectifier fault. Use a voltmeter to measure voltage across the battery terminals, first with the bike turned off (should be between 12 and 13 volts) and then with the bike running (should be about 13.8V and stable irrespective of rpm). If it's putting out say 14 volts at low rpm rising to 16 or 17 at high rpm your reg/rec is knackered and needs replacing. My guess is that this is the problem.
