View Full Version : A Sad Day!

Got an email from El Presidente last night, as I imagine you all did
Saying the UKMOC trackday was now open to all bikes, including Jap stuff, since he's once again facing a £2K debt.
A bunch of us paid early (right after the last trackday) to try and avoid this happening.

What should happen is 90 Monster riders show up and have a bloody great time, it usually does but suddenly you're all humming and harring and worrying about the weather etc. which presumably will put future events in jeopardy.

Get on with it and bloody book... even if you have to get a mate with A.N.Other to come along.

Those of you only prepared to spectate...
WHY?! get it booked! or next year there'll be no trackday to spectate at!

STOP MAKING LAME EXCUSES!

Terry, you have my full support and if I have to pay double to stop Mrs.FB going mental just let me know, I'm fairly sure several others will feel the same.

Indeed It is a very sad day. :worried:

Come on - last year's track day was great fun.

Even if you are as slow as a snail (like me) you will enjoy it and get lots out of it.

You are not likely to ruin your pride and joy unless you try and ride like a DD racer!

Rob, I'd love to do the track day unfortunately the thought of riding there and back with a bit more riding round a track when I get there is just not doing it for me, if it were at a track closer to home where if I did break my bike A: I would be able to get back and B: getting the bike recovered would not cost a fortune I’d be signed up already. 250 mile round trip plus track miles in one day, no thanks.

Are you trying to imply that we crash a lot? I haven't crashed for ages now! It's people like Zimbo that get the rest of us a bad name.

Serioulsy though, if you are in two minds about Mallory then stop deliberating and just do it. I did my first track day there last year and absolutely loved it. Great people, great weather (booked again apparently), great fun.

Have you looked into van hire. Round here it can be as low as £50 per day.

If the worst happened and you crashed a bike, someone there would get you home on a van or trailer, that's the club cameraderie you just don't get at many other events.

Also bear in mind no-one is forcing you to ride beyond safe limits, this is the friendliest, most relaxed trackday you could ever do, sadly you may never get the chance....

obviously, the date being the day before a DD weekend, means the fast group possibly being undersubscribed is unfortunate.

Kato, What is the problem with a 250 mile round trip plus a few more miles on the track. You have a bike that is made for riding. You could spread it over 2 days and camp at the track the night before.
I am only sorry that I wont be there due to the fact that I will be riding around the Austrian tyroll. and it is the first year that the track day is open to all makes too:(

I'm spectating as I don't have a bike right now but have still booked the day off work and am spending god knows how much on fuel in my very thirsty car just to watch my buddies enjoy themselves on their bikes

Plus if I did have a bike by then I wouldn't have the spare pennies to pay for the trackday plus I'd be worried of damaging my new toy - I'm such a pussy rider :gay: I also don't own a pair of leathers and ride in textile gear and think you have to have leathers

Well said slob....
I know people have assorted reasons and difficulities why not to do the trackday, but sometimes if you ask you can beg borrow what you need and most people in the club would offer any help they can..last year i borrowed a trailer borrowed a car to pull it and had lots of help from other club members.
I had one of the best days ever on my bike it was well worth the effort.

P.S. have room booked at local hotel the night before if anybody wants to crash on the floor.

I second Mr Slob's sentiments.

I really think this will be the last time that the Monster Day will happen so this really is not a DFS 'best ever sale' so make sure you do this one - coz it's gonna be the last one.

If it helps out, I have several sets of leathers that I can loan out for the day if they don't have the right trackday gear - all good stuff (Dainese and Alpinestars) - size 48 - 52. Fit people with between 38 and 42 chest.

Kato, 250 mile round trip is nothing. Obviously, nothing in life is guaranteed - isn't that what is half of the appeal of biking - living on the edge and learning something new everyday and all that? But, this track day really is the gentlest introduction to trackday riding. Everybody there feels the same way about their bikes and nobody wants to crash but there everyone is so helpful so it's really a no brainer...

Do it (you won't regret it).

Not having a Duke yet may offend some(I haven't done my DAS yet and will be doing it in August, then getting a 695 very soon after), but I think that a 250 round trip isn't that bad for god sake.

The Bike show at the NEC last year isn't a million miles away from Mallory, and I went upto the NEC on my CG125, OK, it did take just over 3 hours from mid Sussex, but some people will find an excuse not to do something.

A track day dedicated to Ducati riders, sounds like a fantastic idea, I wish I had bike so I could do it.

Hi

Just wanted to say a few words. It is sad that this has happened - but you can't pressure people to do the track day because they have a monster - and that they are in teh club. I did one track day and that was more than enough - its not my bag. I like off roading Fun and Road riding with my mates stopping for cream teas and sticky buns. I would never go on about how everyone should do that. Its just a shame that the track day isn't hiting the figs but maybe thats just life - the hard core members have done it and a few want to do it again and again - but others dont and thats it.

The club just isnt big enough to fill the track day this year and my guess is that it wont be again. I think this should be the last track day.

I hate feeling like i should book the track day because i'm a member and i have a monster. I dont do every Enduro because i'm a member of the club and have an enduro bike - and i feel no pressure from that club - i wish i didnt feel pressure from this club.

He would be mortified if anything happend to put either rider off the grid - and we cant afford the fuel to go 'up' country and then 'down & across' over the same weekend, for the van.

Julie your not under any pressure at all, I'm getting to get all those nice people
on the fence off it.
Last year I said it would be the last and many members asked me to do it again.
Its a shame that some of those who pressured me to run it again have been unable to
go this year..
Your very right this should be the last one,
Please dont think your under pressure you more than support the club in many other ways.

I accept that my track addiction is way past what most members feel.
Besides your photography skills make your spectatorship a vital part of the proceedings/experience for others.
I also understand the financial restrictions some feel, I didn't do the first one because I couldn't afford a set of leathers at the time.
This will almost certainly be the swansong anyway, so as long as we can avoid Terry going bankrupt, I'll shut the hell up.

Stu Pid: The ride up there can be glorious, if you avoid sitting on a motorway from A-B. Open a road atlas and pick a mixture of A&B instead(If you don't have any luck involving a plan with a van)

I'd consider it a 'subscription' as is common with other clubs I belong to.

All we need is a few more entrants I know I'm really getting on some members
nerves (sorry Julie).
But I was put under a lot of pressure last year to run the trackday all I need is
the people who said they wanted the trackday to hop off the fence and take part.
All the spectators who take the time and effort to come along and watch us chumps
wizz round and round are absolutely invaluable and make the event what it is.
A Club event that happens to take place at a race circuit.
I totally understand there a host of good reasons NOT to do the trackday including
family commitments, work commitments, expense, clothing, transport, and
just plane I have absolutely no interest in a trackday whatsoever.
But we have over 2000 members and 85 is less than 5% of the membership
I made a mistake and thought it would sell easier.
But Julie i promise you this after the 27th I will never ever again mention the UKMOC Trackday
on this or any other web site so you'll be free from my constant whining.

Just as a suggestion, is there any way that two people can go halfies on the trackday, where only one of the two people can be on track at one time. Maybe wear specific coloured arm bands, so say if the two yellow arm bands are on track simultaneously, there summit dodgey going on. This will help reduce cost....
