Since 50-50 (The boat I work on) is taking longer to start this summers med season, I have taken some employment for a couple of months or so in the U.K. helping one of our family friends with his wine importing business.
I thought I would offer all UKMOC members trade prices on all of our wines which can be bought in cases of 12 which will save you a fair bit of dosh, and the wines are better value in terms of quality for money spent, than in a supermarket.
The wines are mostly French and range in price from around 3.80 per bottle up to 12.30 per bottle (ex vat).
Many of these wines are very hard to find in shops, who mostly stock wines from vineyards you are more likely to have heard of. The importers I work for (well there are only 3 of us) specialise in finding the wines that are comparable in quality but from lesser known vineyards, but still types of wine that you have heard of e.g. Chablis, Cotes du Rhone, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Champagne, Rose wines etc offering really good value for money. Those familiar with the term Appellation Controlee will know what I'm talking about and why. To those who are not familiar with the term and are purely interested in whether the wine tastes good and gets you drunk, I can safely say "Yes and Yes", and I will happily help you choose something you will really like
I have a winelist which I can email to anyone who is interested (just send me a pm) and you dont have to have a case of one type of wine, you can mix them up if you like (minimum order is 1 case / 12 bottles) - I will just go into the wine storeroom and pack up the box for you personally :) Also, postage is usually something like 9.95 per case using Amtracks Winetrack service, but if you dont live too far away I can probably drop it round in the car for you or you can come and collect it.
