Some de-cat pipes join together. some remain separate. Mine are of the latter persuasion. I also have 2 separate silencers. Does it actually matter? I can't say I have noticed any problems with the bike, no flat spots or misfiring. Any gas flow physicists (professional or amateur) out there that can explain the theory/practice?

The ones sold by Spareshack, which are the Marving ones I think, come in two flavours, Type 1 and Type 2. One is joined together and the other is two spearate pipes. The theory is that if they are going into the existing two separate cans, or similar, then the two pipes should join together to allow the pressure of the gases to equalise before going off to the cans. If you are fitting a single end can like the Akrapovic, then the gases will not need to be balanced as that will happen in the can, so two separate pipes are used.
