Has anyone got motor car knowledge before we put it into garage. What it is , we took carolines car for its mot all running fine until it came out. What happens is poor acceleration and seems to hold back and sputter.Up hill is worse but down hill not as bad. Shes just told me it doing less mpg too. When you are standstill you can rev it freely and no holding back.

Its a 1600 ghia with fuel injection m plate 1994.

Is it possibly electrical. Fuel pump sounds like its working as can hear the whirr.

Thanks for any help.

We were wanting to sell it to get a ford KA for her and this has happened.

Hi,

Check to see if anything has been disturbed around the distributor. Think there may be a vacuum pipe that connects which they may have disconnected when they do the emissions? Had a similar issue with my wife's car recently. Without the vacuum, the advance retard mechanism doesn't work hence poor running at different engine speeds.......worth a look anyway!

Bad plugs

Airflow sensor connection
Vacuum pipe

Take it back to the MOT station and ask them what they disturbed...vacuum advance sounds very reasonable...that particular Ford also suffers badly form HT lead breakdown and the symptoms point to this, the MOT may be coincidental.

Hope this helps...although I think the list of possibles might be endless.
