The key doesn't seem to want to slide into the ignition that easily any more - needs some sort of lube I think - whats the best stuff for that - WD40?

WD40 isn't a lube, it's a solvent!
My advice would be to try rubbing a pencil up and down the key to coat it in graphite, this won't dry out or attract dust.
If you're going to use a lubricant try 3-in-1, but it will cause dust to stick.

I use a special 3 in 1 oil I found at a tool fair years ago. It's got graphite and some other stuff in it - really meant for hinges but works well on padlocks too.

For many years I've used aerosol silicon grease (white) in all bike locks & switches, especially in the winter.

I just dumped a load of GT85 in all the switches on the Monster. Indicator switch now glides nicely and doesn't get stuck, starter switch works better, ignition key clicks to the loud position nice and easy.
