I wish I had a light on the instrument panel telling me when I’m in top gear, I keep trying for 7nth when its not there and its embarrassing and noobish. Do people keep count of what gear their in? I find it impossible to do it and I always have to check if there’s any more gears to change up to.

I used to do that a lot(in 5th looking for 6th), still do occasionally.

Try to make a mental note of your revs/speed,
eg. my bike is at 5K RPM at 70mph in top gear.
That way you can do a quick check of the clocks rather than just trying to change up and finding no higher gears available.

theres loads of digital gear indicators on the market,
maybe try one of them.
Few on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Datatool-Digital-Gear-Indicator_W0QQitemZ160084497837QQihZ006QQcategoryZ 25643QQtcZphotoQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

do it all the time mate, also do it the other way, especially along some slower roads, thinking "wow this has got some go in top gear" and still being in a gear lower!!

once read that if you perform clutchless upchanges you look less of a tit when your hunting for 7th (im not convinced)

I feel much better now having seen replies on this question, and I feel quite normal as well now too, but what about the track?? Do the racers count the gear’s and lap after lap and without ever making a mistake? gotta admire em for sure.

The one's that make mistakes are either at the back or in the gravel!
