Hello

What would be a good way of making an m600 clutch action lighter?

Fter the experience of slipping the clutch for over an hour I decided that it has to get lighter.

I have been told that a later master cylinder or slave cylinder is a good starting point as they were bigger diameter and hence lighter.

Fit one of these like myself and a good few others have done, works a treat very easy to fit about 15 min's, great bit of kit

But it does mention the m750 in the ad. But mine is one of the bikes with the clutch on the right and is part of the engine cover.

Your probably know this but the hydraulic system is just a complex way of making a lever.

So it either moves a lot with no force or it moves a little with much force.

What this means for you is that if you get a smaller master cylinder (or larger slave cylinder ) to get a lighter clutch that means it is lifting less for the same lever movement.

So if clutch drag is a problem you may make it worse by getting a smaller master cylinder. But you will get more lever movement for each mm of lift so it will feel more sensitive.

Pays your money & Takes your choice :)

There is an after market slave cylinder for the m600 - Spareshack used to do them, so drop Stu an email or give him a call Katana :)

Look on ebay too - from a German company (name escapes me at the mo)

The after market slave kits only work on later 600's that have the external slave (like a 900) on the R/H. side of the motor. Not much you can do about the erlier internal slaves, but a different master cylinder or set of adjustable span levers may help.

What you can do is replace the old type slave with the new type sealed unit but to do this you also need to replace your clutch pushrod with one from a newer monster as they are slightly longer and thus can accomodate the external sealed ones.

I think that will only work on very late M600's as most of them have an internal slave cylinder.

just stick with it and you will grow the muscles to cope with it! After you have ridden a Laverda you will have a bigger left arm than the right!
