This club isn't just about having fun and socialising (although it IS a nice thing to do).

Its also about man & bike (plus woman & bike)

That said,

How many of you would be willing to take part on a BikeSafe course one Saturday?

It's an all day thing run by the police.

Emphasis on safey driving, hazard perception, city driving, country lane driving, first aid, security etc., 1/2 day seminar style 1/2 day actually riding.

I went on one a couple of years ago and though there was some stuff I already knew, some stuff was also an eye opener and other stuff served as a good reminder to things I'd forgotten. 1 police adviser to 2 riders. L plates can join in. The bike must be roadworthy (they'll want to see current insurance, mot, tax and they'll also check your tyres, lights, brakes and horn before they start.)

The organisers' view on the day is that they are off duty. In that, if your pipes are loud or the reg plate too small, they'll tell you - they won't nick you. However, because they are off duty, if an on duty policeman pulls you over and decides to write you a ticket, they can't stop them.

Not sure how much it costs nowadays... a few years ago it was £25 including a decent greasy jo lunch in a cafe. A certificate to say you've completed it and a goodie bag of stuff.

Would anyone be up for me organising this?

Comments would be welcome. :spin:

Is a great idea and something I have been meaning to do for some time now.

Was always a little weary about the cans to be honest. Def count me in if it goes ahead.

I think it's a great idea. I did one earlier this year so am not sure if I would attend another just yet though. They vary in cost and duration depending on which police force you use. Gloucestireshire for example is run over two consecutive Sundays and costs £45, but they do give you a copy of the police manual. Wiltshire is a one day course on a Sunday and is free, but no manual.
Good luck sorting something out.

Did one at The Ace about 3 years ago with UKMOC - it was organised by Runningman I think.

Was a great day out, nice coppers, real people not officious or owt. They had no problem with the loud pipes on my old bike and even fixed a fuel leak that it sprung on the morning of the course. They seemed to be bikers first and coppers second, didn't even get a verbal 'word to the wise' re: my cans. A couple of people also had small plates and got no trouble.

Was very weird getting told to go faster (was being a bit wary at first as they are, after all, coppers) and to make good progress.

I believe that the London South (Kent) one is run from The Warren in Bromley. Spoke with a Bikesafe copper at the Kent show we were at - he told me it's gone up to £30 now!! No bank breaker (and cheaper than paintballing).

I'd be up for another of these if the timing was right. I even got a discount on my last insurance because the company recognised the fact I'd done a Bikesafe course.

Good freebies too, earplugs, a pen or two, a nice wallet thing and one of those plastic things that stop yoru sidestand sinking into soft ground.

Did one late last year with Kent police so would probably not be up for another one so soon. I would highly recommend it to everyone else though.

We are coming into more foul weather now so can I have some ideas as to which month would be best suited to you all (can be next year if you so wish, just suggest a month)

Then I'll organise something for the most popular month.

thoroughly reccommended.

Did one a couple of years ago with Surreys finest boys & the Surrey DSC.

We all got a lot out of it - particularly some of the lads who took their test eons ago. The first aid session & talk at the end of the day was a good help too

Bob - good luck - hope this fills well for you burd:)

Count me in, sounds like a great idea and a bit of fun with a bit of education can't be bad. A bit of warning would be very useful.

PS, Hope all you Kenties are well. and I hope to see you for breakkie sometime soon.

Cheers.

I like the idea of this as well. The day you tell yourself you cannot learn any more is the day you should hang up your leathers and I am always open to advice from more experienced people than myself. I like to think I am of a reasonable standard when it comes to riding (after 25 years of it) but I would welcome the chance to improve on what I have learnt thus far and I think riding a motorcycle, especially nowadays, leaves little room for a smug attitude, so if it can be organised on a convenient date (preferably next spring!) I'd definitely like to give it a go.

The offer is open to anyone who'd like to join. Although as I am Kent Rep, I'll be organising it somewhere in Kent.

So if you don't mind an early start (most of them start at 9am) then you are welcome.

Again... suggest a month.

GaryT - I like to think I do my best at everything I turn my hand to... but being a pshycic is not on my list so suggest a month and stop passing the buck back to me hun!

Could be up for this - maybe Susan too - I'll ask her.
Checked last night - she say 'Yeah' - so that's two of us up for this.

Any date is OK by us (before Crimbo maybe), although I prefer to avoid deepest Winter.
