Hi Barty,
Welcome aboard.
I assume that you have tried the instructions at the beginning of this thread.
Can you open the *.jpg file in another application?
If you like you can e-mail it to me and I'll see if I can help. Use this link Dave (dpearson@nildram.co.uk)

Being a newcomer to this site the above helped me in getting my picture attached.... but where do you get these wicked smilies from????????

Dave Pearson
01-10-2003, 04:59 AM
Hi Bob, Welcome aboard.
You will only get the option of adding smilies if you use the 'Post Reply' option which is located just below and to the right of the last post in the thread.

If you use the 'Post Quick Reply' option there are no Smilies :) :burnout:

Well I'm not so proud, HELP.
I tried to send a picture to lemarsu to stick under my name in the post box and it seems to have dissapeared into the black hole of cyberspace where my other attempts have gone. It would be easier to go out and get two pun o' hobby horse ****e in a one pound bag than post a bast#rd picture on here.

LeMarsu

mail me you pic again....

I had over 300 spam emails !! I deleted lots of stuff...

sorry!

Righto then, picture on it's way shortly. It's titled johnypebs avatar install, not soapy t*t w#nk.

johnypebs
29-01-2004, 09:34 AM
As you can see I had a bash at installing one myself. It looks more like an oil painting than a photo, which is why I wanted a grown-up to do it for me, but after three attempts via admin I gave up. It was like waiting on a giro, so this is my first and last go at a bloody avatar.

LeMarsu
29-01-2004, 10:15 AM
Johny,

I don't have your picture !

johnypebs
29-01-2004, 03:53 PM
Well maybe the fairies took it, because I've sent you three different images to both addresses you supplied.

The transmittal of images via email, this much I HAVE sussed. CD in drive, click on image to be sent, attach message, click on send. I've done it loads of times, the image size can be anything between 800 kb to 1.5 meg (or as few as 100 kb for posting) and if it's too big for the intended recipient it gets sent back via my wife's outlook express account, because that's how the Boots software sends it. I've already sent a full size picture of the S4 today to a pal on an oil platform which he told me he got, so I know there's nothing wrong my end.

LeMarsu

attached it the other one you mailed me!

Ive had so much trouble sending pics of me onsome bikes i gave up. got a mate to put an avatar of bike on after cutting and shutting . its only a digital image for christs sake not a elephant going down phoneline. why so small pixels???

johnypebs

Tip top Sami, but how about a dummy's guide on what you did at the top of the page, to save everybody else this grief in the future.

LeMarsu
29-01-2004, 10:39 PM
I have a program called Photoshop not everyone may have it so I can't write detailed explanations... as it will be different for every other program.

The only extra thing I can add is that the picture needs to be 150 x 150 pixels or 23000 bytes (whichever is smaller).

thats because they are all mash up due to server problems, providing your vision works fine when you look at other things. Technical thing but the gallery might work.

the problem might be due to a backup of the database and then moved to an other location....

I will not get into details....
but Just up load an new picture and all should be fine.

They went t1ts up about a week or so ago, anyone who has reloaded their old one (like me) or changed their avatar since then (like Yerbs) should find their avatar viewable. All the others wil remain blurry and pixellated until they download a new 'un.

It seems to be the same with pictures that people downloaded on threads before the problem started.

The ones that work is because people have re-loaded their Avatar’s.

We have corrupt images because someone moved the database in the wrong manor.
They should have asked me for help....

Sorry to have to resurrect this thread but I am having great difficulty posting a pic, I have been at it for ages this morning.

Firstly I tried using the paperclip icon and even reduced the pic size down to 16kb and when pressed upload button it came up 'failed to upload.

I then tried to download from the web, I joined 2 image hosting sites Flickr and another, when I try and use pic from there all that comes up into the preview is a very small square with a white cross in a black box.

I thought it may be my desktop but it's the same on my tablet. It is possibly something simple I am missing or not doing, I do not have much hair and am even thinking of buying a wig just to pull some hair out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Is it a picture that you want to use as an Avatar, the one that appears in the left column?

A bit like this? http://yarrum.co.uk/monster/myavatar.png

So your trying to link out to an external site, i believe this is the only way to do it.

If you look at the image i posted, its hosted on my own web server at home, (http://yarrum.co.uk/monster/myavatar.png)

Some hosting sites like Flickr don't allow direct links to the content.

If the files aren't too big ill host them for you.

I appreciate the offer, the thing is I have posted pictures before, probably from the 'paper clip' icon, so I must be doing something different or wrong.

I'm going to come right out of the site and shut down and see if I can get up and running again.

What would you suggest a decent hosting site would be, remembering I'm not too clever at this computer wizardry :mand:

I use www.postimages.org/signup.

Once you've uploaded your picture, click on the 'share' icon and select the 'hotlink for forums' address, copy it and paste it into your post.

If you preview the post before submitting it, the picture will appear in the preview if you've done it correctly.
