View Full Version : Measuring Closer Clearance
Hi there, just wondering. I've been doing the clearances on my bike for the 1st time. Haynes says closer clearance should be 0.03 - 0.05mm. Then it says the service limit is 0.20mm. What does this mean, your clearance can be upto 0.23 -0.25 before you have to replace the shim!? Surely not?
Cheers

It means the maximum limit is 0.20.
But isnt 0.03 - 0.05 the limit?
What it all means is that it should be 0.03-0.05.
However it may be more than that but must be serviced if more than 0.20 .
Cheers for clearing that up. 0.20, bloody hell that seems a lot
Cheers for clearing that up. 0.20, bloody hell that seems a lotThat's why doing the shims on a 2-valve engine makes the bike feel like a new one.
