As you have all seen the humourless banter about where Miles thinks Orpington is,

I have decided we need a poll.

Please vote accordingly.

If Orpington is decided to be in London I shall gracefully bow my head to the intellect that is Milesb.

If not, I expect Milesb to bow his head just as gracefully.

Your vote is needed please. and please vote according to your notion as to whether Orpington is in London or in Kent.

It's in Kent obviously, although I heard Kent has been trying to get rid of it for years.

wrong way round
they want to believe they live in the countryside
not just a suburb of London

I should add this is only my opinion and I'm normally wrong

For what it is worth, for the purposes of UKMOC boundaries I think the Kent Area should extend to include everywhere south of the Thames and east of Biggin Hill.

Dartford - inside the M25 - outside of London and most definately in KENT

Orpington - ditto

Oh and I'll ride anywhere (including London) if the event and company make it worthwhile ;)

the M25 is a motorway, not a boundary line. It was built in its current location because that is where it made the most sense to build it, not to separate counties. The county boundaries were there long before the M25. Just because the sprawling mess, sorry mass, that is London has expanded doesn't change the county boundaries. I lived in Kent for several years and loved the countryside around Tunbridge Wells. I can see how the Kenties would want to disown Orpington, Bromley, and Dartford, but I think that they are stuck with them.:mand:

Orpington is definitely in Kent, I thought all Londoners knew this.

Well it used to be:

"From 1894 to 1934 Orpington formed part of the Bromley Rural District of Kent. The rural district was abolished in 1934 and until 1965 Orpington formed part of the Orpington Urban District. In 1965 the urban district was abolished and its area transferred to Greater London. It became part of the present-day London Borough of Bromley."

So, it's now in Greater London. NOT LONDON.

Lady-Bob your poll is flawed there's no greater London option.

I personally dont give a **** where it is. I recognise it as up the road and not quite in London. Its a trivial matter that is disturbing other Kent members who are not bothered. What about Sheppey or Grain and Thanet they are Isles. We accept all areas on our borders.

I just think its PATHETIC nitpicking

Even the Kent Council say that orpington is not in Kent

http://www.kent.gov.uk/Community/YourNeighbourhood/

But Bromley (London Borough), are happy to accept it!

No where near Kent or London about an hour from Keswick in the Lake District and not that far either from York. So see you all at the next 'mini' weekender?
