Hmmm, servicing. Well, to maintain the manufacturers 2 year warranty you must have all servicing done by an authorised dealer. So you will need the 600 mile service (not free like on some bikes), the 6000 mile/1 year service, and the 2 year/12,000 mile service. Now, are you sitting down.
The 600 mile service is round about £210-£240 depending on the dealer. Try to negotiate this as a freebiee when buying the new bike.
I have just had the 1 year service done with 4000 miles on the clock - cost £385.00.
You really do have to get the next one done - the 2 year/12,000 mile service as this one's real important. The belts get changed and if not done the engine gets screwed. However, if like me you do less than 6,000 miles per year, then when you get to the two year stage the warranty is expired anyway so you get the servicing done by one of the many Ducati specialists who will charge you a damn sight less than the £500 plus figure that a main dealer will charge.
Ducatis seem expensive on the servicing side, but when compared to my wife's Hornet 600 which has 4000 miles/6month service intervals then it's not so bad over 2 years/12,000 miles.
I just read somewhere on the Ducati.com site that next year all bikes are moving to 7,500 miles service intervals so if you are a high mileage rider thats an improvement.
Don't let servicing costs put you off buying one of the best bikes on the road.

As for cans, I would go with Arrow titanium's for the S2R1000/S4R, they look good, nice profile to rear end, ask Gilps he has seen the ones which were fitted to my first S2R1000. My only problem with them to start with was they seemed to loud even with earplugs in. Seemed to get quieter with age.

I would say the S2r is a cracking bike, by the time you look to buy I would say there will be a few on the 2nd hand market so could be a bargain to have, as long as it has been fully serviced by a good dealer I would go this route, £7000 is a lot to spend, but when I was looking to get my repacement a couple of dealers did offer a new one at £6500, one even throwing in the first service, but a picked up a 4 month old bike with 500 miles and first service done for a bit less.
