Anyone know the easiest and least messy way to drain the tank on an S4? Stopped at the M42 Hopwood Park services on the bike this evening, filled up, paid and rode off. Only to come grinding to a halt 20 yards from the forecourt in a huge pall of smoke. Guess Beelzebub isn't too keen on diesel then?! I must have looked like a case of "Tourettes in a helmet" with the amount of shouting, screaming and hopping about I was doing. Anyway, the bike is staying there overnight until I can get a van and pick him up in the morning. But I need to empty the tank and only have a tarmac road to do it on so I don't really want to spill any if I can help it.
Any ideas or help would be gratefully received.

Thanks mate. My own stupid fault although the three pumps were labelled Unleaded, Super Diesel, Super Unleaded. Why put the Diesel in between the other two?! What Fekkin donut thought up that one? Ooh I know how we can prevent people mixing up the two different types of unleaded, we'll stick diesel in the way. Wouldn't want anyone putting the wrong type of petrol in their petrol car now would we? I wouldn't mind putting Super Unleaded in the bike, thats an unfortunate mistake but diesel is an expensive mistake!!

Phil, understandably you were a little troubled when we met at the M42 Hopwood Park services when I explained how I drained the tank having done the same thing with BP Ultimate diesel around 5 days ago. So, I shall reiterate. I lifted the tank on its stand, removed the two vent pipes and the lower of the two feed pipes and drained the diesel into a container. Of course, none of this was done roadside, you understand ;-) Once all the diesel was drained, I lowered both feed pipes as low as I could in order to siphon any residual diesel out of the system. I noticed my mistake after filling the tank with 1.8 litres, so fortunately hadn't started the engine. I used empty water bottles that fit up, under the tank. However, I would be inclined to use a small hose pipe to drain the diesel into a container to avoid spillage. Let us know how you overcome cleaning your jets out, etc.

Sorry Vincent,
Had my head up my arse last night. I'd done 300 miles on the bike and spent the day in court too. So I wasn't really with it by the time we spoke. Thanks for the advice and as soon as I can get something to collect the bike, I'll be off to a specialised fuel drainage place (honest) to do the job.
Phil
