Tuesday night i picked up my new 900, happy as can be :D wednesday morning i decide the very first job after years of wanting it has to be the clutch. At the weekend i got all the gear from spares geezer and sat down ready to do it...
Undo the cover - check
undo the six spring bolts, 1 2 3 4 5 & my god this last one is tight, oh hang on i've just stripped the fitting so now my allen key is spinning in the hole. :banghead: I decide to try anything, wd40, mole grips, screwdriver, even tapping the allen key with a hammer while turning gave some grip but it would not budge.
So i went for a drive and purchased some stainless bolts to replace the long cover bolts anyway, had a think and decided to splash out on a much needed dremel. Came back and sliced a stripe on the head for a screwdriver and guess what, yup its still stuck solid. I was about to scream but the neighbour popped in to say hello so i thought i'd be polite and just swear like buggery instead.
I had a plan... if the spring was causing the tension then remove the spring and i could undo the bolt  so using my new dremel and a dose of over confidence i sliced the spring and kept removing semi circles of it bit by bit until it was gone, so had the pressure and the bolt just spun out with a gentle tun of a mole grip. :D:D:D
So fit the bearing thingy, fit the cover plate, springs and caps, bolting up the springs and one of the bolts was giving no resistance and seemed to be turning more, "ah that'll be why then" i said to myself as the head of the bolt fell on the floor leaving the stainless bolt stem in the clutch drum! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
"FU.. oh hello neighbour". So next is a shamefull call to my mechaninc who said ride it with 5 springs, try not to use the clutch etc and come over (40 miles) and i'll swap the drum over with one i have. So we did, and he did and i paid to top up my phone while he did, then paid him a ton for new drum and clucth plates too while he was at it, then bought the biggest slice of cake i could find, filled up with petrol and came home again.
It can't go as badly wrong today can it?
