I decided I should try out my new DD ride Monica before we race at Donington in a couple of weeks, so went along to the ACU wed afternoon test session today at Mallory. £45 for the afternoon, 3 x 20 minute sessions with very few bikes on track, bargain.
First things first, it was HOT, drank bottles of water!
Otherwise I had a great time, took it easy for the first session to get used to the bike (I've never ridden it before) and made some adjustments to the rear shock, then went round and round pushing it along a bit to see how she handles at race pace. I'm pleased to report she's just fine, a little clutch slip in top occasionally (which I put down to the hot weather and consequent high running temperature) but handling / brakes etc are fine. Experimented a bit with entry speed into Gerrards, ended up just with a slight lift off the throttle just before diving in, and then opening her back up again and keeping the throttle pinned wide open in top all the way round - awesome! Lapping in the 1.05s, my best yet, and on a 583cc monster at that!

Anyway, roll on Donny on the 13th August, and a couple of pics of Monica for anyone who'se interested!

Outstanding! We'll expect single figure finishing positions only from now on.

Outstanding indeed Zimbo! The heat in Leicestershire was a total killer yesterday too.

I am interested to see how you get on the 13th August, although I won't be able to get to Donington, look forward to reading your write up though.

All the very best to you.

P.S. At least, the rain will stay away if I don't go! :chuckle:

Ohh...that sounds high tech. Sounds very credible too. Also adds to the cost of a race bike.

Transponders are a couple of hundred quid to buy but you can hire them by the day.

Thanks for the positive comments all, yes it is indeed a transponder, required by all race bikes when racing as this is what measures your lap times and determines your position. They can be hired on the day, but I'm fortunate because Monica came with one fitted - BIG bonus!!! :spin:

So where was my phone call to say you were going, looks like a nice day for a pootle round, I could have come along with the Minitwin or the class A DD bike.
Good to hear you had a good time and are getting on with the new bike.

I'm not going to get to Donny (should allow a few more points for a few people) as I will be at Darley Moor racing in 4 Minitwin races over the weekend.

So I take it you didn't get on with that saddle extension that Monica use to wear :spin:

Good one Graeme, glad to see you're both doing well.
Those scratches seem to have polished out well too :dizzy:
