Hey all,

Just been paid :) but feeling the pinch this month so not getting my headers but can not let a month go by without some form of modding entertainment.

so......

I have bought an After Market Clutch Plate, some stainless springs and billet collars. no cover as yet still got to make my mind up on what style there.

I am normally a dab hand with modding bikes but never messed around witha dry clutch before, so any advice on fitting welcome, e.g. torque settings etc?

TIA..

In addition to fitting advice, feel free to spam away on cover options.

Cheers

that's an easy one.
undo bolts, remove spring and plates, fit new plate and springs, redo bolts. job done
no sweat on this.

thats what i thought,

just thought that if I didnt tighten all the clutch plate bolts too the exact same amount, might have an impact on the clutch, like I said not even pulled the cover off yet, not messed around with dry clutches in the past.

just do em up tight enough so they sonr come undone when ya rideing (thats bad if you were wondering) annoyingly enough theres no torque figure specified (that ive managed to find) so id guess at the generic M6 (is it?) torque of 8 to 10 Nm if you want to do it like that

maybe i mean 4 to 6 Nm ive no idea

The push rod can be a pretty tight fit in the pressure plate bearing. I usually tap mine out with a drift or smaller diameter bit of bar, while supporting plate on top of workmate. You may need to fit release bearing in new pressure plate if it was supplied without one?

Haynes doesn't give a torque setting for bolts - just says tighten evenly in crosswise pattern. They are a small (M5 I think) thread so easy to strip/shear in clutch hub if you go OTT, so I use a 3/8 ratchet or allen key to reduce risk of overtightening. Make sure pressure plate is aligned with mark on hub, as there's a slot cut in one of the posts that matches a groove on the face of original plate.

nice one Gary thank you, the new plate has come with a bearing thankfully.

thanks for the heads up on the alignment hadnt noticed that, could of been messy / expensive fook up there.

time to give it another go, back in a bit.

thanks again garry appreciate it, keep an eye on this thread more dumb questions incoming no doubt.

cheers

ok rods out, but i think i have miss enterperated "release bearing in new pressure plate if it was supplied without one"

dont think it has, was expecting the rod to come out in one, but the bearing that it was pushed into with the very small hole, the hole I used to tap the rod out, that bearing is still in the standard plate, not one of those on the new one, just outer bearings that that slides into.

so still got a bearing removal on my hands, any further advice for this bearing/clutch retard most welcome.

christ im normally good at bike DIY lol

or drift the old one out of old plate

i favor sockets

if your realy stuck i could come over and do it 4 you

Thanks scotty,

just so im not whacking this the wrong way, release bearing, have cover flat front facing upwards and get to work tapping from that end, basically tap from same side as i did to get the rod out?

/shakes head in dis belief over how crap i am with clutch plate swapage.

thanks for the offer scotty btw appreciate it, but its getting l8 and a tad far for u to come to give a bearing a wack!, if I cant get it out, ill pop the rod back in, then put it back to standard till i get a new un.

ok its out, doddle using a socket as the driver, good one scotty.

k back at it again...

this might actually get done tonight..

jeeeze i have less trouble changing sussies, exhausts etc..

yes thats the correct way

by quirk of fate i think a imperial socket of some sort is quite a good fit for the hole but without touching the sides

tip for reassembly

put old bearing in freezer, boil kettle (or turn oven on) and have the new pressure plate warm before you try and fit them together, oven on 250 will make em just fall in to place errm , just give em a skoosh of wd40 after taking out of freezer (condensation and all that)

so going to have to invest in some form of open cover sharpish, preferably the exposed region away from my little toes :)

anyway took a couple of pics before i left my dads sorry didnt check the quality must of moved a little as there all blured but gives u an idea.

Hi guys, just read this thread and I see "Make sure pressure plate is aligned with mark on hub, as there's a slot cut in one of the posts that matches a groove on the face of original plate."
Reason I ask is I took my clutch apart a couple of nights ago and just "blew it out" and put it back together, works great but have I lined up these marks? Dont want to bugger it up! I can see at the back of one of the spring housings a couple of notchs on the pressure plate, but what am I lining them up with? Covers off at the mo so advice would be much appriciated!

Thanks, McMonstro

Not that I can quote much help here, look up I made that a dramer eh, but if its any help my standard plate had the notch, but the aftermarket one had none just lined it up with the teeth.

but standard plate notch u already found should be inline with one of the posts u unscrewd one on the springs from, one of em has a notch/slit in it.

prolly have it back on by now :)

Mine had a dot on it.

Mine had a dot on it.

Ditto - mine (Ducati performance) had a dot punched in the front face

Maybe not all aftermarket plates have one?

Just the set the record straight, if u do this mod check and tripple check for a notch/dot on your plate and match it up with the post with the notch on.

I said earlier mine didnt have one, which may of set thoughts running that some dont, ignore i didnt look properly noticed my plate had one today oooops, lucky me tho unscrewed a couple of the springs and my notch was inline 1 in 6 chance and i got it right without trying phew.

They all must have them so make sure u line em up.
