View Full Version : Rearset troubles bubbles

Hiya All

I got a set of S&P rearsets from spareshack a good few months ago, and tried fitiing them this weekend.
The left one went on a trat, no troubles.

The right one however is a different story.

There doesnt seem to be anywhere to screw the rear brake light onto for a start. And allso, the lever itself doesnt have any spring mechanism. So although it depresses the brake (not makes it sad), and springs back, it bounces up and down with the greatest of ease, as nothing is holding it still.
If that makes sense?

I was wondering if anyones fitted these at all? And if so, does it sound like i got the wrong ones? Or am i just doing it wrong?!

I got a 2002 S4 by-the-way.

Don't worry, you're not doing it wrong... they don't have return spring, but they don't need one to be honest...

...and they don't have a bracket for the standard rear brake light switch either - if you want to hook it up, you'll need to get a hydraulic pressure switch (about £12 for any Goodrich dealer) and replace the banjo bolt to the brake master cylinder...

Wow Cheers guys!

Thats exactly what mine looks like, but i got a gold thing not a black one...

So you guys are happy with the brake lever being really loose are you? It doesnt rattle at high speeds or anything?

Do you guys have a web address that I can get one of those hydrolic switch jobbies from?
Is it easy to fit?

almost any decent M/C shop or dealers should stock them or failing that
Stuart @ Spareshack stocks them

I found an old spring around my garage and made a little plate with a hole in it and fitted it to CORS 620 when we fitted the DP rear sets. This sorted out the lever not returning properley.

As everyone says you can buy a hydrolic brake switch, I would advise get the Brembo specific one as it is shorter in the length of the thread. You can get this from any decent Brembo stockist, do a search on internet. I originally put on a goodrich switch but this lasted only 2 years.

I have an Italian copy of these rear-sets. If they are identical to mine you can sort it.
Look in Eonan’s picture. Just behind the root of the pedal you will see the top of an allen bolt. This is the stop for upward bouncing! It has no other purpose on mine.
Underneath and behind the pedal at this point you should find a threaded hole that you can screw a bolt through to engage on the allen bolt head. This limits the upward travel and stops the bouncing. You need quite a long bolt tho and a nut to lock it with. the bolt which came with my kit was not long enough.
Downward flop is taken care of by adjusting the rod on the plunger (your "gold bit" as you put it) to near maximum out.

Cheers guys. All sorted now after an hour of playing around.

Its not flapping around anymore, and feels far more positive than the old ones.
I need to adjust the gear lever though, as it keeps catching on my side stand when i down shift! Had to ride around in 4th all afternoon today!

I'll keep an eye out for one of these brembo banjo bolt thingies then. And i'll probably be back on whinging that i can't fit that next!!!

All you need to rember is bleed the rear brake after fitting the pressure switch
