It helps with top end but does loose a little at the bottom so I'm told.

The standard crossover will create a low pressure scavenging effect in the opposing header as the gasses pass the junction, a Bernouli effect similar to the one created in a carb that draws fuel up the needle jet.

That will direct the gasses directly into the opposing header which will have to push them back out of the way.
