Why is it, on a nice warm day, patio door open, that one always gets one or two little black flies, buzzing in circles around the bloody ceiling light shade?
It's daylight, the light is off FFS. What is it about the ceiling light, that these stupid creatures find so fascinating, that they spend a large portion of their pathetically short lives, orbiting the bloody thing?

Before anyone says it, no, I have NOT farted, and thus attracted them.

yup, elephant hawk moth. I found a caterpiller for one of these as a kid, very big and dark grey with a larger head end, guess thats where the name came from. They're not that common over here but they do turn up now and again.
Very pretty insects.

I saw one of these once, a hummingbird moth. I really did think it was a hummingbird and was quite disappointed when I found out that it was (only) a moth. Still very pretty for a moth though.

Great fun those 'fly bats' we've got two ! - keeps you fit diving round the room to see who gets the most.

Thats the new shape V22 Stealth Moth. Specialy produced by a consortium of Sikorsky and Hawker Sidley under the provisional insect self-protection act.
