Well Munch is dead, but I'm hoping it's temporary. I had to get a nice man to bump start me so I could get home yesterday :grump:
When I go to start her, all I get is a buzz. I really am well pi**ed off and seriously considering selling up and getting a jap bike as I just seem to be throwing good money after bad!!
Your input would be much appreciated as always and has anyone else had this trouble? Did it cost much to sort out? My service and MOT is also due in the near future and on my car so money is running out
Maybe I shouldn't have bought those tickets to the Festival of Speed.......at least I hope the rain stays away!!

Sharon, it's likely to be a number of things, all of which are not that costly to fix. Try looking at the connection at the starter motor itself. Check that it is not corroded. Best if you can remove it clean it and re attach the wire, smearing some battery terminal grease on it or vaseline failing that, then replace the rubber boot over that. At least eliminating that as a possible cause. Next check the starter solenoid relay. As with the starter connection just check for the obvious, loose or damaged wiring, moisture, chafed insulation. The starter solenoid relay is relatively easy to identify as it has the largest gauge of wire going to and from it to cope with the high current. You did not mention whether or not you can hear the fuel pump running when you start the bike. If not then it might also be the case that the fuel pump relay is not operating. This is more difficult to diagnose as it does not "click" as audibly as the starter relay, so is difficult to check. Both these relays are inexpensive to change if faulty, but most are fairly robust if kept dry and clean, so it might just be a case of moisture or a poor connection to any or all of those I have mentioned. Lastly it could just be your battery is not delivering enough voltage to turn the starter over. How old is the battery?
Hope this helps. Any good service mechanic ought to be able to sort this out for you in a half hour or so. If you were closer I would offer to have a look at it myself. Hope you sort it out soon. Good luck and see you at Sunny Hunny.

Come on gal! 6 days to go. Eeeek! Hoping it's sorted with little monetary action.xx

Awh, don't say that Scrumpy... I know you've had a few problems with that bike, but I think that is more down the fact that it was sitting unused for a good long while in DK, and that nothing much is known about how the previous owner cared for it (other than the fancy paintjob of course)...
Unfortunately you are now having to sort all those little niggles you get with a bike after a certain age, and it wouldn't necessarily be any better with a Japanese bike of similar age/mileage... I think that ultimately, unless you can afford a newer bike, I fear you might still have the odd problem regardless...
Best of luck, and hope to see you out and about soon though!

I had a clicking this side of winter, for me it was the battery not holding charge. If you've used the bike much in the recent weeks and months i'd be shocked if the battery just died so probably the little electrical thingy whatsit under the dooda.
See you next weekend I hope

Well, I know it isn't the relay under the seat as that went before and I have a relatively new one.
The next thing I am going to try with NB's help is the starter solenoid, if it's a starter problem he will get it to Snells for me :o) I did ring them Friday and they said Solenoid or Starter motor.
JMo, yes you are spot on with it's history, and essentially I know Munch is a good runner, I know because she has got me to work nearly everyday since I have had her and I have done about 10k miles in under two years. My problem being, very little knowledge, however eager to learn!!
Rod, thanks for your kind offer and Benson you are the best, but I truly hope to be there on munch in NONNIE 2 weeks, not 6 days, surely???? have I got the wrong date?? Jeez I have booked the wrong Friday off!!! Fingies crossed please that I can change and that my folks can have my youngest!!! Cheers Dave for the info!!xx
