Stop!

I wouldn't chop a bike that is still within it's warranty period. If anything goes bang then Ducati might be reluctant to play ball if you have heavily modified the bike. Worth checking out with your dealer before picking up your hacksaw.

No answer was the stern reply. Its like a free ride when you've already paid etc... I think you missed him mate. Little too late for a reprieve I reckon.

Chop it, go on, you know you want to!! :mand:

Just get on with it. If you don't like it you can always put it back on. It won't affect the warranty unless someone can prove what you have done has caused the problem for which you are claiming.

There is no problem with chopping the rear of the frame as far as dealers (and DUK) are concerned... the only thing that a tail chop could possibly affect warrenty wise, is perhaps the paintwork around the area you've cut - hence the use of primer/touch up paint to cover the bare metal cut.

I apprieciate your concern, but to be honest a tail-chop is hardly 'heavily modified', it is mearly cosmetic - I think the warrenty dept. would be far more concerned with power commanders, aftermarket exhausts and other performance enhancments to be honest...

Wise words indeed... same goes for drilling any holes x

Roberto, just follow the instructions, and you have my phone number if you are at all unsure about any aspect...

i also spoke with ducati shop in lincoln before i done mine. they said it wouldnt affect warrenty too, so i really wouldnt worry and it does look so much better if only in my opinion.
oh and dont worry, it really is soooo easy with JMOs kit, its a real tight little unit shes produced. tho i admit i took a little dutch courage as i did mine.

go forth and chop

Well its chopped, but not finished, took some piccys along the way for memories of tha fat arse.

still stuff to do tho, caters are too short, might get away with a few spacers find out tha mora, and a couple of other bits, like my plate.

but the deed is done, one arse end frame hacked off a 2week old 06 bike  ....

ps. the halfords paint kit is top notch, frame ends filed down, 3coats of primer, one of fiat swift red (another of those to do) tis a good match.

kit was top too jen ta, only issue i had was the plate light, which i think im not going to bother with now, bit of a bitch to get high up and manage to get the nuts on the back, ended up going a little silly with the drill on that bit = remove light, cover up holes with somit, italian stripey reflecter or somit. :dizzy:

anyway im fubard and need a drink. piccys etc tha mora.

Which indicators did you go for? Personally I think the kellermann/tinycator style is the way to go if you want seperate indicators - they fit very neatly under the edge of the seat cowl... otherwise go for the Clear Alternatives combined LED unit - Motrax Dinkywinkers and the ilk have no place on a £9500 bike x

RTFM - you're not the first to go in all guns blaising with that part, and I did rewrite the instructions to make it clearer...

However, to recap the info for anyone else - as per the instructions, you drill two holes 46mm centres half way down the ribs (that is approx 15mm from the top edge) - this sits the numberplate lamp parallel to and directly under the rear light lens, and allows the wiring/bulb holder to sit in the recess between the ribs.

At 46mm centres, the holes are towards the inner edges of the ribs (as per the photograph) not in the centre, and therefore the nuts can't be fitted, but the thread of the lamp holds against the inner edges of the ribs - trust me it works, I've done loads of them x

Looking forward to the pictures Roberto!

Bought a tail chop from JMo a couple of weeks ago. Following the instructions it went sweetly although I could have concentrated a bit more on the squareness of the cutting. The instructions point out that the tubes are coming in at the point where you need to cut so don't cut them in line with the bike as a whole but squarely across the tube. Where I messed up was not cutting them evenly vertically - I managed to correct it but my advice would be to have a clear head (thats Sundays out then!) and put tape each side of the intended cut to make sure you keep things neat.

The kit fits really well. I had bought a "tail tidy" off e-bay a while ago thinking this did the same job. It doesn't but it does work well with JMo's tail chop kit and I attached it to the underside to act as a numberplate holder and to hold the tail light.

Yes, the Motrax Rsend or R&G tail-tidy bracket is another option for mounting the numberplate (and indicators) if you prefer the minimalist look... R&G do lots of different types, and I'm sure there is a suitable version that would bolt to the bottom of the chop kit, and hang down at the right angle for the numberplate not to foul the rear tyre on full travel...

I still prefer to utilise the original plastic number plate holder section (they do it in carbon fibre too you know x) as it compliments the rear hugger, but you have the option to go your own way in that respect of course...
