How many reasons can you think of for this simple problem. I haven't got time to try and solve the problem right now but thought if I asked now at least I'd have some clues to follow when I got round to sorting it.

Any ideas welcome
Thanks

bulb mounted the wrong way round is a classic.

Mines always a sticking switch on the front.

Bit of WD40 and its sorted for me.

It's usualy the switch that's packed up / stuck.

On my 916 the rear master started letting air in(a common problem) which meant the lever dropped enough to keep the brake light on all the time, also the switch can stick, so skoosh a little WD40 into it.

Is it simply the brakelight switch on your rear pedal needs slackening off.

i.e. release some of the tension so the biting point to close the electrical contacts inside is reduced.

Take your foot off the brake pedal!

I think it's a glow worm with a red arse nesting inside your brake light housing - rare but sweet...God I'm tech:mand: :mand: :mand: nical...

I do like that explanation! Seems technically very sound to me.

Could be a short at the bulb connector (between the two copper springs that touch the contacts on the bulb). I found my old 'un had accumulated so much crap (a combination of dirt and damp) that it was shorting across.

Took it apart - cleaned it up (using an emery board robbed from the missus) - put it all back together - job done in under ten minutes.

That or a red arsed glow-worm as Benson suggests, happens all the time. :mand:

Or....right...yeah...it could be that it's a little flicker of hope, a faint ember barely burning of a love to be......

or....right....yeah....it could be like Kylies heartbeat right, which means yeah like obviously, you don't want to get rid of it maan.

or a glow worms red arse.

You choose PD but remember we're going on holiday in 3 weeks time!

Hi hon - I'm afraid you've lost me now!!! I know you've taken the bikes rear end to bits - so how is the brake light sticking? I am very confused!!! Will we see you this weekend perhaps at Snape???

Paranoid Dave

not my rear light.............

benson

so it's the brake light then? Ihaven't got a switch for mine as the rear sets didn't come with one - so has the switch stuck then????

Just sorted a similar problem with the brake light on Emily's 600. Turned out that both the front and rear switches were just a bit goo'd up, and a quick squirt of contact cleaner sorted them, and freed off the little pistons in the switches.

Failing that, the switches aren't that expensive to replace. My guess is that one or both are broken - they tend to corrode inside after a while.

The switches work when you take pressure off them, releasing a little piston, that switches the brake light to on when the piston is all the way out. So if the brakes are off and the brake light is on then you've either got a short inside the switch (moisture in there?) or they're knack'd.

Hope that helps. Awkward blummin electrics eh - you can't fix what you can't see....

cheers,

Nik

i looked at it the other day, when i tested it, the problem had sorted itself out? Its been for a ride since then and still fine. I squirted a little WD40 just to ease things as I think the bike had sat for a while before I rode it and found the problem.

just got the call to say her bottom skeleton is ready, but i can't get there to pick it up today, will have to be monday now, then i have to modify the work to fit slightly, then with any luck i can put her back together and hope she starts ok after sitting there neglected for however long.

Em's fixed itself too, and then mysteriously didn't work again! The contact cleaner sorted it though. Glad yours is the same. Pesky electrical gubbins!

cheers,

Nik
