Hiya all

I want to clarify something with y'all S4 owners.
What F'in spark plugs do i need to get?!!?!?!?

I've put a post on the UKMOC and got one response.
I had a look on a NGK site and couldn't find my bike at all.
Had a look on the champion site, and could only find the ST4.
Finally i called ducati bristol, and they said it was a champion plug, part number - 67090171.
He said that the S4 has a duel spark thingy or something, so they cost more. £14 each!

So, anyone know what plugs i should get?

Help!

try a search on here??

I did a quick one for NGK spark plugs, and brought up this thread for you:

http://www.ukmonster.co.uk/monster/showthread.php?t=15528&highlight=NGK+spark+plugs

AK has noted the S4 NGK plugs in there:

"you need to ask for (if you want Iridium, that is) : DCR8EIX for which NGK stock number is: 3604
They have 16mm hex & an unscrewable cap"

Ooh Excellent.

So its a DCR8EIX NGK plug i need.
Are the champion ones that bad?

Just out of curiosity, what does everyone else do when they need to change thier plugs?!

we bin any champion plugs straight away when we get a bike, AK detests them (I cant remember why, but it is indoctrinated in my brain:D )
The only thing to remember, is that your spark plug spanner in your 'fantasticly abundant' ducati tool kit will no longer fit.

Seems most here are either DIY peeps, or otherwise they get their plugs done at service in a bike shop.

I take mine to Proteam in Wimbledon and they do it all. Although I might start doing stuff myself as I've seen how un-complicated they are. :)

Another twist to the tail. I emailed that sparkplus website, and they said:

According to Denso (the only manufacturer to list the 916 S4 Monster), part number is X27ESR-ZU or IX27. This plug has 18mm hex and may be difficult to fit/remove, check if your plugs have 16mm hex. NGK equivalent to the Denso listing are DR9EVX (platinum) or Iridium DR9EIX, this is 1 grade colder than DCR8EIX and also has larger hex size. I am not confident in either recommendation, best bet would probably be NGK Iridium DCR9EIX which has smaller hex and is colder in heat range, this is a new plug, only been available for a couple of months and is specifically for some Ducati models.

So its the DCR9EIX recommended by this guy.
Will i need a different tool to fit these?

Cheers

DR9EIX is the same plug as i have fitted to my S4, you need a slim 18mm hex plug spanner, i use a honda tool kit spanner with some ground off the outside.

Better to use the harder plug with oversize hex.

These were suggested by www.sparkplugs.co.uk and work fine.

Ah b*gger this.

I might just get the ones the ducati shop are selling.
At least they are a direct fit like. And i wont have to mess with them.

I have no idea what a hex thing is anyway! So i'll only end up messing it up.

The hex thing you refer to is the nut shaped bit that your plug spanner attaches too. As you have found NGK do two different size hex drives of the same plug, DR9EIX which requires a larger 18mm plug spanner and DCR9EIX which uses your standard plug spanner. As a double check you can measure between the flats on your plug spanner and get the one that fits.
