John (bladerunner) has removed the chipped ECU and replaced it with a standard one and now the bike won't start
He's also put the chipped one back on and it still won't start
He's really worried as he's was putting this up for sale tomorrow once he'd finish reverting the S4 back to standard but now this has happened. He's got the red key and tried following the instructions which were poorly translated in the Ducati manual but no such luck
Has this ever happened to anyone else on here - if so, really appreciate helpful advice.

Just rang Rick at Ducati Coventry for advice on this and he suggested the following:-
Check he reconnected the earthwire as this often gets forgotten
Check fuses
Check main fuse near battery
Check all wiring
He doesn't believe it'll have anything to do with the red key and having to reset it as when John swapped the ECU's over the standard did work and ran for 10mins but it's when he turned it off and went to restart it an hour or so later he discovered neither would work :banghead:
Come on peeps, really need your input on this please.

The wonders of Ducati design catch us all out initially! Leasons I learnt the hard way (in front of the viewing public).
1) If you leave the key in the ignition on my S4 for too long, the imobiliser switches on. All the electrics work and the starter motor happily spins the engine trying to drain the battery, but the won't fire until you switch off remove the key then put it in again.
2) If you accidently catch the engine kill switch and don't notice, again the starter motor happily spins the engine trying to drain the battery, but the won't fire until you switch off the kill switch.
Why don't they design it so that the starter won't turn over, at least then you know that there is something wrong!!!! Bloody Italian Designers!!

I have swaped ECU's on my S4 several times / Std / DP Performance, there is no need to re-program them, you can't anyway as I understand and also based on this there is no point removing the performace ECU as if its a Ducati one its no good to anyone else.
Has the small earth wire been fitted to the ECU mounting bolt?

Looks like the usual consistency in the Ducati design process, what year is your's? My S4 is a 2002. Is it Possible they actually learnt from this and re-designed an upgrade when they built yours?!?!!
