Thats not what I thought it was. I thought it was the replacement for the 749/999 but its not. Its £37.500!! Thats what it is! Oh well. If the new 1100 replacement for the 999 looks anything like it, I'll be more than happy!! Cos that is what I've ordered!!

And she sounds like this...http://homepage.mac.com/gizmo999/upnorth/desmosedici_straight.mov

Actually no she doesn't...forget that. That seemingly was a clip of the screamer engine.

How much??
So you've got your name down for the new 1100 replacement, the first one, and you have no idea what it's like? Your faith is strong.

It can't be any uglier than the 999 and it should handle even better!! How can I go wrong? If it is awful, I'll just cancel the order. :mand:

Hmm, looks like an R1 to me....

Have to agree, though, that anything is an improvement on the 999

Am I alone being a bit underwhelmed with that pic? Sure the headlights look more sinister than the 999, (Alien?) but put your finger over them on the picture and what have you got? Another identikit race rep. Perhaps thats all the designers have got left to play with, the headlights, as the rest is dictated by the wind tunnel.

I gotta disagree with nealenet - man that bike is sassy as hell, and i'm really not a sports bike fan (well apart from the odd MV of course)

The whole point of this bike is that it isn't a race rep but a genuine racer for the road. Hence the £37.5k asking price!!

yeah, but unless you fart money - how do you ride a 38grand bike with any real conviction on the road???? i'd be so scared of damage and getting to the servicing too quickly, and on that note i hate to think how much the service costs on such a machine are.............

Don't get me wrong tho - It does rawk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is just jelousy side of 'want' talking

Triumph? Yamaha?

Hi Markus
I just think that Ducati need to establish a visual language that differentiates their bikes from the crowd. A change of lights is all it takes to make this not look like a Ducati any more. A 916 is a 916 from any angle and in any colour.

I agree with this, but i still think it's far better than the jap competition - but it does also resemble the triumph 695, you hit that on the head.
Maybe we're all waiting for something with the same impact as the original 916 - but i'm not sure that will happen again.

as far as i know the new 1200 with styling more like the 916 is the replacement for the 999 and the desmo will be released in two versions the £37k and one about half that.
so i think i'll have 2 of each, oh and a s4rs and a s2r1000 and.... and.........

Pedro

MCN got their facts wrong on the two versions of the Desmosedici - there will not be a "budget" £15k version according to Frederico Minoli's Web Blog and the 999 replacement they had "accurate inside information" on was also wide of the mark by several miles. Don't believe what you read in MCN - More Crap than News!!!!!

But hell, that is one sexy bike - anyone wanna buy a kidney?

that is a damn sexeh bike....... and im sure the jap manufacturers wont be far behind with their own offerings (if the Duc is a success)

and WSB homologation sounds like a great idea, then the jap fools cant get their knickers in a twist over the capacity hike that everyone has been talking up the hype of.

does no one like the looks of the 749/999? i really like it, especially in race trim!

markus

I'm a fan of red - but the 749/999 works by far the best in black, tho the race trim still looks sexy as hell.

749 dark, a faired bike is hard pushed to look any better. Like a mini-stealth bomber.

The kind men at Italia Moto loaned me a 749 dark the other week while the S2r was in for its 1st service.. It certainly turned a few heads but soon looked very dirty. It was good to get back on my Monster tho. Even before I had made it out onto the road, It felt good :)

This months bike mag has an artist impression of the supposed 999/749 replacement. Looks better than the MCN effort of a few weeks ago. Thought the Desmo livery from Mugello(today) looked much better than normal. 60 year anniversary or the need to avoid tobacco advertising ~ looked cool whatever the reason, MV colours but in reverse with added green..

i dont get why people want Ducati to make it look more like a 916 series bike? i mean yeah, its one of, if not, the, most gorgeous looking bike ever created. and hats off to Massimo Tamburini for penning the design. but surely people have to realise that Ducati have to look forward, and just because they have released the Sportclassic range, doesnt mean they have to look to the very recent past for styling cues off the 916 series.

it was one of those things that worked. right time, right bike. but that was then, and this is a very different now. now if they used the Desmosedici RR as the basis for the next 749/999 replacement..........
