digging a pond in my garden!
Now that my girls are are no longer babies I am satisfying a long-held desire to have a pond in my garden. I imagine sitting next to it on a lovely summer's evening, g & t in hand watching the dragonflies and frogs and fish and stuff!

See me, see nature as Rab C Nesbitt once said!

Anyone else got one?

That's quite spooky...last weekend we just finished ours, with exactly the same vision as yours...G&T's, dragonflies, frogs, fishes, G&T's...

It's only small but I love it :mand:

i built/dug one a couple of months ago and transplanted a batch of tadpoles into it. they grew legs last week... apparently they'll soon lose their tails and jump out onto the grass!!

That I can understand. Its a shame tho. No matter how much you can net it over like it will always be a worry. Mines going to be 18" above ground and 24" under.:mand:

I just put a small pond in to use as a reservoir for a waterfall feature.
As much as dragonflies might be nice I think the only things we'll get are midges.

You forgot to mention the mosquitos. As you sit there on a barmy evening, you'll be doing a lot of swatting.
I filled mine in. Too much work to keep it in a nice condition.

I just fill my bathtub, open the window, get a drink and throw some dirt on the floor. Instant pond:mand:

Are the fish not supposed to eat the mosquito eggs & larvae?

yes, the fish also eat frogspawn though, I think i am going to have to do something with my pond soon too (frogs, newts, damselflies) as Eleanor is getting mobile. Really don't want to fill it in though.

They do. They love 'em. Trouble is, mozzies are attracted to the water, so it's not a cure all. Especially if there are other scources of water nearby.
Bastard things. I hate them almost as much as I hate wasps.

I have a pond in my new house/garden it is full of soil and plants, just the edges to be seen when I cleared away the weeds.

On the children frond a friend got someone to knock up a metal box section cover for it to stop the little darlings falling in(can be removed when in bed)

This is where the G&T's come in extra handy...hell it's why the drink was invented in the first place! Mozzies, midgies etc just cannae stand quinine :pedro:
