I like to take some advice on what monster to buy.
I had a 94 M900 and then bought a SP1, as great as the SP1 was I missed the involvement you havards Bae we a monster and this site.
I like the look of the air cooled monsters and there is a good deal on a M1000 at the moment but would I be better off with the performance of a 2 year old S4R.
What do you think?

S4R....S4R....S4R....take no notice of the anti-plumbing brigade! :mand:
The radiator keeps your legs dry when it's raining and makes the larger framed biker look more slim-line!
It's just those extra heavy chaps that need the lack of a radiator and the associated additional weight to keep their bikes quick! ;)

I have an S4 and my other half (almost former but lets no go there) has an M1000sie, personally i think the torque of the m1000 is exceptional so this would be my chioce next time around albeit the motor is not as smooth as the 4 valver.
Servicing is also a doddle on the m1000 and it doesn't suffer from flaking rockers! (haven't seen any reports though on flaking S4R rockers)

NO NO NO NO, ive have 5 monsters and the most fun you can have with your clothes on was the S4r and now the S4rs!!!!!! The aircooled ones look nice, but the 4 valvers are the best
Just think hot rod, cafe racer, a huge motor squeezed into a decent frame with rugged good looks, and how would you feel when the first 4 valver overtook you!!!!
NO NO NO NO NO NO it has to be a 4 valver!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!arrrggggggg

Just my 2p worth...
I've ridden an S4RS and a couple of M1000ie's and for me the aircooled bike was much more fun. Sure, the RS is fassssssstttt but the 1000 has all the lovely grunty torque, and a much more characterful engine. I personally wouldn't want or need any additional top end that the RS offers.
Not sure how an S4 or S4R would compare though, but I'd still chose the one with fins...

Me too - I have plumbing in my central heating not my bikes.
However, I would advise you to buy both then you can argue with yourself endlessly!!!!!:dizzy:

Characterful :mand: - yes that's the word - also translates as fecking annoying when bizarre things happen to the engine for no apparent reason - but I still love them!!!:mand:

No one bike is better than the other when it boils down to someone's personal preferences, as different bikes mean different things to different people. All I can say is that if you ride as many variants of the monster as you can, then you are best placed to make an informed choice based on what YOU prefer, as riding a bike is so subjective when you come to make comparisons.

Oh E.D. you are such a wise post-er of monster wisdom - and here was me thinking that it's just better to have one of each and constantly argue with oneself in the middle of the night about which is best!!!
he he he - one day I MIGHT grow up but it is HIGHLY doubtful....:toilet:

Hell that's an accolade - thank you Bodycote!
However.....My personal statement might be a bit different....
For a start I'd have to include the Buell - and the fact that it corners like a thing on rails....
but nothing stops a front wheel like my gorgeous radial brake cylinder on the monster... Apart from perhaps a crow bar forced between the spokes of a moving wheel... but I don't want to try that one...:banghead:
