The Ducati masterplan :eyepopping:

Looks official, and makes interesting reading - bit of a wade at 64 pages, but the critical ones are pgs 27, 41 and 42.

Seems like the only entry level Ducati will be the Monster 695 (to be available in Dark only?), with everything else aimed at the high end of the market. So if you want a sub-litre Ducati, get buying now.

Isn't this where Moto Guzzi went wrong, by having no entry level bikes worth buying? And they expect to get 24% sales at the low end with only 1 entry model :fou:

With the 695 engine replacing the 620 - and effectively the 800 too, it will be one 695 engined bike and the rest using the 1000DS or it's radiator time :grump: .

Intriguingly, at the entry level it indicates the Monster 695 as Short Term only, with a 'New Model (2008)' to replace it; a corresponding 'New Model (2007)' is indicated in the premium range. Could this be the replacement for the Monster?

PS: Looks like they are not to happy with the reception / sales of the 749/999 either.

When I heard about the 695 I thought then that would be the end of the 800. It makes sense when you look at the engine output. Most manufacturers these days try to use one engine in several models, which is what has happened with the 1000DS, and the 800 isn't used anywhere else now, is it? I wouldn't be surpised if they bring out a 695 sports bike as Triumph have done, and maybe use that engine in a Multistrada.
I think they would do well to maintain an entry level Monster and also use the same engine in the base level S2r if pulling the plug on the 800.

Nah..., found it on Multistrada.net, where someone posted:

Have you seen this :

It's the marketing plan for the next two years.
It was online during less than one day on ducati.com... it's seems to be a big mistake to put this file on the official site for everybody...

It's unclear whether they mean entry level = DARK or entry level = 695. I'd certainly like to see a Numpty 695. Ducati did for a short time do a Sport 620, which apparently was a hoot, but I think it was only available in the UK for one year.

The line "The renewal and simplification of the product range in all families" on page 13, makes their intentions quite clear.

Page 42 is a bit of a shocker isn't it! Down from 24 Models across the entire range to just 12 by 2008. Does this mean they're getting rid of the sport classic line-up? And where does the Hypermotard fit in this?

I can see the range as SBK, M, ST and HM. Will the rest of the range be cut?

Just looked at page 45 and apparently they're keeping the sport classic's? Whats being cut then?

Page 62 shows the list as I stated above but...

...Aaagghh I don't understand!!

Looks interesting though.

Current speculation is that the SS will deffinitely go (with the F1 in the Sportclassic range to replace it?), and maybe the ST... they don't actually sell that many of them.

Big question is what defines a 1 Model?

Big question is what defines a 1 Model?
A bit more research...
Ducati.uk site states the range of bikes is 25 Models, and lists the following:
Supersport (1) 1000DS
Superbike (8) 749Dark, 749, 749R, 749s, 999, 999R, 999s, 999R Xerox
Sport Tourer (2) ST3, ST3(ABS)
Sportclassic (3) GT1000, Sport1000, Paul Smart 1000 (limited edition)
Multistrada (3) 620, 1000DS, 1000s DS
Monster (6) 620, 695, S2R, S2R 1000, S4R, S4Rs

Now 1+8+2+3+3+6 = 23 :fou:

[Ducati.com show the 3 Dark models that we don't (officially) get here:
M620 Dark, S2R Dark and Multistrada 620 Dark]

Ignoring the Darks, we are going to lose the 620 bikes (2), 800 (1) and Paul Smart special (1). We are going to loose two ranges: SS (1) is a pretty sure thing, but we are also going to gain the Hypermotard... where does that fit, or do we actually loose 3 ranges:eyepopping:

Must stop speculating and do some work...

Very confusing. Left hand, meet right hand, perhaps you should both be aware of what the other is doing?

Seems like they don't have the best internal communications strategy in the world if nobody can come up with the right figures?!
