Hiya all

I recently bought a set of S&P rearsets for my S4.
Very pleased with the purchase.

However, i recently went to fit them, and encountered a problem.

Obviously, you need a new exhaust bracket , as the standard one will be removed. So I bought a set of underseat exhaust brackets.
I went to put these on, and realised that they are soooo not made for my setup.

I think the problem comes from the fact that i have oval exhausts, and these brackets look like they clip onto round termi's. As the hole on the bracket that the exhaust brace (for want of a better word) is to bolt onto, is on the inside of the exhausts.
Where my brace thingy, sticks up vertically.

So my problem is this. How the f*ck am i going to hold my exhausts on when i put my new rearsets on this weekend?
I might just get rid of my exhausts. Make everything a whole lot easier. And louder.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!
Cheers

Buy high level cans, they're mounted under the seat with new brackets and don't use the existing footrest frames at all. Other than that can't help you.

My exhausts are high level ones.
They where already on the bike when i bought it, and they didnt have no underseat brackets...

So I bought some, buuuuut they're naff and dont fit.
Bugger.

My high level Termi cans are oval and came with brackets and mounting kit for them. Give a Ducati dealer a ring and ask if they stock upper mounting kits for high level cans. Not got my DP catalogue with me so I can't even give you the part number for the cans I have. Someone on here might have one and be able to give you the part numbers.

Wont these kits be the same as the ones I have already though?
Perhaps i could get my local dealer to let me have a look at em first...

The kit number for the full race system is:

2001 S4 - 96412400B
2002 S4 - 96424902B
It would be worth speaking to the dealer and tell him which kit you're on about. On the picture in the eBay link below, it shows the upper frame mounting brackets but doesn't show the two aluminium straps that go round the actual cans. They each come as a two piece component the aluminium strap and a rubber inner that stops it scratching the can.

These are the same as Beelzebub has on and, although I still have the standard footpegs, they're not used to support the exahusts at all.

And, if you want to buy a complete new set with mounts etc, although the picture doesn't show the straps, there's some on eBay at the moment.

Item number - 8065776804

Or use the link - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8065776804&ssPageName=MERC_VIC_ReBay_Pr4_PcY_BIN_IT

Hope this helps.

Cheers for that mate.

I am now even more confused thought!

Right, i've drawn a picture. Its the lamest thing i've ever seen. But I cant explain myslef any other way. Picture 1000 words and all that.

Right, check out this picture anyway, it shows the bracket under the seat. The bracket bends at a 45 degree angle, poking into the side of the exhaust, and the bolt that should go into the bracket is pointing straight upwards.

The brackets I have look exactly the same as the ones you have shown on ebay.

So wont I have the same problem with these new parts?

God i'm confused. Maybe i'm just not fixing them on right...

Aha, now I get it. The cans aren't supposed to sit upright, you have to lean them in at the top. Thats how they all are. Should make life easier for yuo knowing that. Mine lean in at the top quite a bit (as in 25 to 30 degrees of lean).

Thats normal.

I would add some pictures but I can't on my work PC.

Hope you get it sorted out. :mand:

Aha! I see!!!

I never knew that. Does everyones oval cans lean like that?
I've never noticed.

I'll try that this weekend than, and let you all know. And i'll draw you another pretty picture.

Cheers bodybag!

No worries mate, happy to help. Can't say I've ever really looked at other peoples but thats the only way to get them to fit. They should point inwards slightly as well at the rear of the bike. I had a right old job trying to get both the riser pipes to line up the same, gave up in the end as I still have standard footrests on. They hide it quite well.

:mand:

Are you going to draw another of your exceptional pictures once complete or put a photo on?

Well i've just finished a tail chop, so i reckon a picture is in order.

I've just spoken to stuart at spareshack, and he reckons twisitng the slip ons is not the way to go.
He said they should fit, and if they dont, i've got the wrong brackets.

The plot thickens!

I'd say you have the brackets for a set of low level cans

Huh? Noooo.

This bracket fits under the seat. Miles away from the low level types!

I'm going to take some photos of the brackets this weekend, and post them up.
I think they may fit if i twist my exhausts around, but i think that will look naff!

Has anyone got a picture of their oval cans with underseat exhaust brackets?

Cheers

Looks to me that the brackets are wrong. Vertical bolts is not right.

This is how my S4 ones were held on:

straps should be like this:

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b184/bunny_955i/strap.jpg

you can put the join anywhere, it has not got to be vertical, so you put it at the same angle as the frame brackets:)

Different bike- same idea:

Can the brackets that go around the exhausts be bent so that they attach on the inside then?
I assumed that they had to be vertical, but if I can somehow move em round, will they just bend into a different shape?

Or do i need new exhaust brackets?

You've got round exhausts by the way, mine are oval...

Bunny

Hi, yes, you can move them round. My S4 exhausts were oval, and were mounted vertically, with the strap mountings angled as in the (amended)picture.
The pics of my round cans were just to show the angle of the brackets

DevilBoy

How do you move the joining point (new term i just invented) around to meet to underseat brackets then?

I dont want to scratch the carbon or anything!

Bunny

Fit the can onto the pipework without the strap, and mark the can where the frame bracket meets the can. Take the can off.If the strap does not have a rubber strip to protect the can,use a rag to avoid scratches.Bend the strap out a bit, so there is a big gap between the ends. Put the strap around the can, and starting with the join ligned up at the mark, gently reshape the strap against the can. You may have to straighten the closest part of the strap to the join, as the shape of the top of the can is a sharper curve than the side.
Well you did ask !!
