My two-week-old Monster 695 has its brakelight permanently on. How big a job is this to fix, in that could a garage possibly squeeze me in or do I need to book it in, in which case I'm probably looking at several weeks?
Do what I do, give the light a friendly tap.
Otherwise check the switches aren't stuck or wiring in the light.
You should be under warranty and if you decide do take it to a shop, this should be a 10 min. job.

What do you mean 'do what I do'?!?! Is this something that happens a lot? I was warned about the Ducati electrics...
It's been prodded and poked, and nothing from the outside looks wrong. Just wondering if the guy who fitted my alarm did something funny. At least if it's only 10min, I'm sure my man in Wandsworth, Dave, can squeeze me in.
Thanks man!
This shouldn't happen to a new kid on the block, but older year models usually get their fair share of glitches here and there as time goes by, and only need a firm slap on the backside to get things back in line. :mand:

Could be that someone has wired up the rear/brake light incorrectly - putting the wrong connectors to the wrong socket on the rear of the light will do this - I've done it myself when re-fitting the light on the tail of my bike.
As Pugi says - get it sorted by the dealer - it's so new NONE of the bike magazines have reviewed the bike yet!

Could this be related to the Datatool alarm fitted by somebody else (a qualified Datatool fitter), in case Daytona get difficult...

If he fiddled with the rear light, then it could be... is the Datatool 'arm' light back there?
This is something that you should be able to check - just compare which wire (colour) goes where on your light with that on your friend's 620. If it is different then they have been put back on wrongly:dunce: :twak: . In that case just unclip them from the back of the light fitting (friction fit only) and put them back to match those on the 620. Hopefully job done.
If the wiring looks OK, then it is something else... off to the dealer.

Thanks Miles! Excellent idea, will check that on Friday when the 620 returns home from the north.

Once cross checked with your mates 620 and still no joy, don't ring the dealer just turn up there and say that you've just had someone pull you over telling you your brake light is on and then hopefully someone will come out and do it there and then - do the whole girly thing, works for me...usually:mand:
Whatever happens, don't be paying someone to look at it for you; it's under warranty and is brand spanking new gal

Damn, I'm a redhead! Then again, if you know what's good for you, you don't mess with a redhead!

That's even better, go in guns blazzing being a fiery and feisty redhead...or just pretend to be really angry and go on about how someone nearly went into the back of you coz it appeared that you weren't braking etc etc

As it happens, on my second day on the bike somebody did! Was when I was accelerating off traffic lights though, not when I was braking... But they don't need to know that, they can see the reflector & plate are bent...

of coure the best solution to this problem is to replace the rear light with some sort of led type system ;)

Well, as I had to go and see Dave Robinson (lovely chap!) about the bent handlebars (more on that story later, in the relevant thread...), I asked him about the brakelight. Two minutes later it was fixed: all he did was give the front brake lever a gentle tap to loosen something that was jammed and tightened something else to make sure it won't do it again, and I was on my way!
