problem fitting tail unit

looking for some advice.
replaced my tail unit with a bug eye version but cant get it to fit. the lights are positioned underside so they but against the rear frame. it wont sit properly. anyone fitted this unit B4? its for 2000+ model.
I hope I haven't drilled the holes wrong!!! :on:
2 hr job turned into a nightmare.

Put the same on my tail. Try taking the bug eyes out of the tail unit and turn them around. Should fit fine.
