Ok we were thinking of selling the bike.
It's a 1998 600 Monster on an R reg.
Just over 10,000 miles on it.
DP Cafe Racer kit comprising tank, leather seat, 2 into 1 chrome exhaust, multi pod clocks and alloy tail section.
Roadracing front and rear mudguards, air intakes, side panels and seat cowel all in polished alloy.
900 swingarm (polished) and rear wheel.
Wheels painted gloss black with polished rims.
Polished engine cases including valve and cam covers.
Polished footrest hangers including brake/clutch levers and side stand.
Chrome mirrors.
Very well maintained new tyres about 1000 miles ago and new battery just fitted.
Had belts and valve clearances done about 1000 miles ago.
Due a service shortly but I will probably service it pryor to trying to sell it.
Has a few other new parts fitted as well.

The question is what do you think I could ask for it?
I would like to get close to £3000 but is this to much for a 1998 bike?
Or if I put it back to standard how does £2000 sound and sell all the parts seperately.

As I say just thinking at the moment but if someone waved some readies at me we could perhaps do a deal.

Thanks.

Norrie.

That is a beauty, as people will know Im not into shiny clean bling but that is something special.
Dont do it, put the other half out on the streets to earn extra money, chewing your own arm off must be less painful than parting with that.
I think putting it back to standard will be the way to get your money back, but who could destroy a monie (or should that be a "Monet").

Get very drunk and think about it, let yourself get sentimental

Well it's her bike not mine.
I've got a Buell.
Yes it's a lovely bike but she hardly rides it.
When I say put it back to standard I would leave the polished wheels, casings etc.
I would sell the tank, clocks and the Roadracing stuff.
It would still be minted as I will repaint the tank gloss black.

What do you think regarding how much to ask for it?
I would really appreciate some feed back.
Or if someone makes me an offer.

Thanks.

Norrie.

I would say £3K is too much to ask for a 1998 M600, even with all the bolt-ons you've fitted. I guess around £2-2.5K is the average for a standard low mileage late 90's 600 monster, with a good service record & above average condition. Much more (£3-3.5K)and your into the 620 or 750ie price bracket.

Bikes are a bit like houses - you can throw as much time & money at them as you like, but there's a limit to how much it will ever be worth, or people are prepared to pay for it. There's also a lot of cheap late 600's & new 620's (in dealers) available at the moment which are dictating market rates TBH.

I suggest return the bike back to as near standard as possible, and flog the RRacing & other bling items on afterwards. That should hopefully maximise the return on the sale. Or you could always keep it and sell the Buell? ;)

Parkers list a good 'standard' '98 600 as £1585. I'd say that's about right. I picked up my '98 750 for just a little over that...and it had quite a few mods done to it.

Eonan,
I think the Parkers guide price may be trade - and if so a bit low? I still beleive that 2K or just under would be nearer the mark for a private sale, especially if it's in VGC with usefull extras, or below average mileage.

It's usually early (1994-96) 600's that go for the £1200-1500 mark. I think a later 600 would have to be a sh*t heap to be worth less than £1.5K

To be fair your M750 was a bit of an Ebay bargain, and as such not really typical of true private sale prices? Although dealers heaviliy discounting new or nearly new bikes isn't doing much for 2nd hand values at the moment :(

To put things into perspective...

I paid £2500 privately for the trike doner last September, and that was a 2001 (Y plate) 900ie Dark with just 6000miles on the clock. Ok so it's was a bit of a snotter with no MOT but otherwise a sound bike. Just goes to show there are some real bargains to be found thanks to rapid depreciation on newer monsters.

Well I've had a chance to think about it and we want to sell the bike.
So how does £2600 sound the way she stands with all the extras on it?
If not I will strip the parts off and sell them seperately.

Thanks.

Norrie.

Yeh...I'd listen to Gary Norrie. Since owning one of these things I've developed a very distorted view of reality when it comes to money :p

With everything that you've done to her, that sounds a good price. Its also the type of bike that may get someone who REALLY falls in love with her, and is willing to pay just that bit more. I hope so...keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Good luck with her mate.

£2600 would be a bargain for all those extras as well - the RR tank, guards and sidepanels must have cost £££'s, not to mention the small fortune spent on metal polish? ;)

Well just to let you understand the retail for the Cafe reacer kit is around £2500 although I didn't pay that much.
The Roadracing parts add up to about £800.
Then you've got the 900 swingarm and rear wheel say £200.
Then the polishing I've no idea how much all that cost.
Say another £350.

Yes I know you don't get your money back but it also has new chain and sprockets, battery tyres, clutch master and slave cylinders as well as various other small things done like s/s bolts on the casings etc.
I will wait and see if we can't shift it at £2600 I will strip some parts off it and sell them seperately.

Thanks.

Norrie.

Its a lovely bike and I would be in pains to sell it with all the hard work. Its one of those bikes that has all the effort alredy put in so the new rider can just show it off.Very hard for you too get money back unless selling of bits.Seems a shame so I hope you get asking price:D

Norrie...why not try it on eBay first, with a starting price of £2600? There's going to be people who want your bike for sure. Let them bump up the price to reflect the amount of work you've put in to her.
