OK, so I like bought a bluetooth helmet. ED has another. They work rider to pillion without the phone which is great but to talk bike to bike as the range without the phone is 3 metres, one of us has to call the other thus incurring phone charges.

My question is, does anybody know of a booster device type aerial thing that can be bought and will give us a bit more range?

well if you want to DIY you could always study the plans and see if ED can't come up with a similar set up.

As far as I'm aware Bluetooth cannot be 'boosted' for greater distances - it was only ever intended to be a short range wireless connection - I don't think that it would ever be licensed for longer ranges becuase there would be all sorts of interference problems. Having said that I can see no reason why a Bluetooth to PMR radio link couldn't be made say via an Autocom or Starcom - maybe someone will invent one soon.

There are bluetooth devices with a range up to 100m for PC Bluetooth networks. Whether you could butcher one into your lids is another thing altogether, but it might be possible with some kind of technowizard. Don't you know any teenage boys who lock themselves in their rooms for hours on end? They are usually quite good at this kind of thing, just make sure they wash their hands first.

Not used mine yet, but I called Nonnie while she was out on her bike the other day, and it was crystal clear. No background noise audible at all. Apparently as she told me, the caller's voice is very clear too in the helmet, even at various speeds (legal ones naturally!). So clear in fact she had to turn the volume down. We still have yet to try them out "bike to bike" or "rider to pillion" but I am short of one rather crucial ingredient at the moment, so that will have to wait. I'll let Nonnie describe the rest of the details of the lids in question as I know she is well chuffed with hers. I feel a request for a Disco Diva paintjob on it, coming my way soon.

It's the Dainese Airstream Course. If you click the link PD first put up, a picture of it comes up. It's gorgeous. It feels like no other lid ever felt. It feels soft. It is gorgeous. It is exceptionally comfy and has an anti fog visor on it already and it works. It has all the trappings of a truly beautiful piece of Italian artwork! Yes, I like it. The phone call comes in and I don't need to push the little button on the left of my lid as it answers automatically, I can hear the caller perfectly well. It has volume adjustments that are easy to do on the move, just a case of pushing that little button a few times. It's not distracting at all.
It was bought from Bikestop in Stevenage and it was meant to be 350 quid but they had a sale and got it for 250. Very very chuffed. I'd tried one on at the Bike Show at Birmingham and knew it was the lid for me. Except that time I bought a Dainese winter suit.
So far, I'm well chuffed with the lid. Will let you know how we get on bike to bike but I expect it will just work beautifully.
Then I'll post up the picture after I get it airbrushed! It's a beautiful muted silver grey at the moment which, in itself is rather lovely, but I think I am going to go for the full head disco ball effect. In chrome.

Was it old stock like these here?

Circa 1963. Bleep and booster got there long before you guys and they had a better range on theirs 40 years ago.

I'm pretty sure they only have XL and XXL left now. They said stuff generally takes about 4 months to come in from Italy but then they will be at the full price. Their number anyway is 01438 317038 and they have a website too. www.bikestop.co.uk

At the bike show, we went to the Silver Machine stand and tried them on there. They had absolutely loads of stuff and were very very helpful when we asked about the fact we couldn't buy the helmets then but were still interested. They were prepared to post them to us for sizing which was very nice. You could try them Banshee. They're in Wolverhampton and their number is 01902 424516 and ask for Nigel. www.silvermachine.co.uk

Alternatively buy mine for a grand!
