got the bike out for the 2nd time this year and it seems to have developed a chirping type squeek which appears to be coming from the rear cylinder???
could it be the little end or a ring?
it had a service this year.
wot do i do, HELP:hissy:

Wild shot, but you never know !!!,
Firstly, is there any oil leak associated with this noise, as I had the same type of noise on a 1994 900ss and it ended up being a snapped cylinder stud.
The same thing happenned a couple of months later on the front cylinder, with much more spectacular results, oil everywhere (except where I was sitting)
It's probably nothing so drastic, but something you could check.
All the best

there is no visible oil leak, the engine is pristine and runs well.
me thinks i need to wip the covers off and check for oil and any siezing pulley's but it sounds internal to me.
I'm going for a run in the morning so will see if it improves/worsens and depending wot happens i will remove the covers and have a gander.
thanks for the ideas.

suggestions from the house party here (some sober, some not) :
1. get louder cans
2. get better ear plugs
3. listen to both sides - is the noise from the left or right. If on the right, it could be rust coming off cam belt pulley if not used for a long while & bike not kept dry?
4. The tensioner pulley could be squeaking?
5. Just ride it & get the engine well warm.

4. Sorry mate, out in afternoon - not back till late as collecting/sorting race stuff for next weeks 1st race meeting.
I'd take the casing off & have a listen & look if I were you in the morning.
If all looks ok, carry on & go & ride it ( I would)
