I have a very small area of metal work that I would like to spray in senna grey. Can anyone recommend a supplier of said paint preferably in aerosols and give me any tips regarding primer / overcoats etc. The metal is bare aluminium on a head light fairing.
All sensable suggestions gratfully recieved, not so sensable ones must be funny or a least surreal :freak: :freak:

Hi there Glyn (checked your profile)

Aluminium ideally needs an etch primer coat before a good base or primer coat, either way use an 800 grade wet and dry paper very lightly with plain warm water and also between coats to de-nib the surface. But if going over the etch make sure your do not cut through it, also check that you may not have to abrade the etch primer first?.

On the final primer coat lightly abrade as above using 1000 grade it may help to use a pure soap but make sure it has no silicon or greasy additives.

Sadly most finish coats available nowadays are acrylic based which means you will need a lacquer coat or a base coat to get your desired finish.

With respect to companies I suggest using the yellow pages local to you under "Paint, Varnish & Lacquer" as one of these will be local ( Doh! obvious!!!), probably and ideally cheaper and critically able to match exact to your bike colour specification when compared with most Bike specialist paint suppliers. They will be able to supply the items in spray cans and will be able to offer you any more advice.

A couple of links that might help

http://www.autoaircolors.com/ Click on 'technical' and the links therein.

www.paints4u.com not cheap but it's all there. Click on 'About us' and then 'motorcycle touch up'.

I have not used either but find their sites informative due to having been from and in the trade several years ago.

Hope some of this helps?
