View Full Version : S4R - 44T Rear Sprocket

Hi,

I want to gear up my S4R by fitting a 44T rear sprocket instead of the standard 42T. Talon and Renthal only seem to do sprockets that fit their own carriers and the DP catalogue isn't any help either.

I know that you can do this from the other end and fit a 14T front sprocket but I thought that it is technically better to increase the number of teeth rather than reduce them.

Anyone else done this and can point me towards a supplier?

If it helps..ive gone the 14T front route and its worked wonders..much cheaper/easier route for better rideability round town (and second gear wheelies off the throttle :yoparty: )

Isnt there an issue with chain length when going up a tooth or two on the back?
i.e. you might need a longer one!
I went to 14t front on the 916 and the S2R and have never had any problems with either.

I thought I could get away with just 2 more teeth. It worked on the S4 at any rate.

It looks like 14T front sprocket is the only way to go!!

I plan on doing the same thing, but am only going up to a 42T rear, so not sure if they have any bigger ones.

I have a Monster 1000s with a 996 swingarm. Std gearing for the 1000s is:
15T front and 39T rear = 2.6

Most people say to go for the 14T front on the 1000s so:
14T front and 39T rear = 2.79

If I go for:
15T front and 42T rear = 2.8

Pretty close, but the sprockets are so cheap that I got a 41T as well... just in case... :)

The same company has new ones for sale as well...

The gearing might be the same (or almost 2.8-2.78=small). But won't it be easier for the engine to transmit power through a larger frone sprocket? :scratch:
Just thinking intuitively...any mechanical engineers around?
