Hello all. Just bought myself a set of Oxford carbon fibre barends. How do you remove the stock barends from the 620? There's no bolt to losen at the sides. cheers

are they just plastic? they should pop out, you may need to prise them with something. Just to warn you there is carbon fibre and there is carbon fibre "look" the latter is dressed up plastic and to be avoided.

why use carbon which weighs the same as a virgins pube for a bar end?
Do people actually forget or know what bar ends are for?
beats me sometimes

I've spent most of my life disappointing someone - not going to stop now.
So the response 'It's OK officer, I've had a bottle of Fitou but my bar-ends are doing the steering' will be an adequate response? :D

Well since it appears that the stock bar ends are made of cheap plastic, i don't see how putting carbon fibre ones on are gonna make much difference. I just like the look of them. I use my arms to assist my steering :)

The stock bar end weights on a Duc should be aluminium. If yours aint then they aint bar end wights and some **** taken them off without knowing what they're there for. Put some in and marvel and the reduction in vibration for a start. Try riding a Harley without bar end weights.....OK, maybe you shouldnt do that, it aint nice with em in.

Mmmmm I can understand a Harley vibrating through the steering, but then I would expect that from any field ploughing implement

The standard ones on my 900 were held in by a cap screw, and I think made of steel as they looked a bit rusty when I removed them. They have long since been replaced with neat anodised alloy ones.
The stock bar ends on the S4R, are heavy plastic coated metal.

mine were made from a polymorphic alloy (likvid medal).... early models were metal endoskeleton covererd in living tissue (I may be wrong?)

I took mine off a while back. They are plastic. You just twist them off with a set of pliers.

If you want to screw barends into the handlebars after removing the standard plastic ones, is there an attachment to install into the handlebars, as there is nothing to thread into...just a whole lotta hole.

Approach in a positive frame of mind, glare menacingly and wave a few sharp pointy tools at them, up the ante by swearing loudly then attack showing no hesitation or mercy... They fall out in fear.
Bar ends are made to fill the holes at the ends of the bars, those of a 'greener' following often leave them open to provide a safe home for bike spiders. These are second cousins to bath spiders, unfortunately bike spiders will not eat flies off the bike directly and due to their limited intelligence they can't be trained to do so.
Vibrations in bars can be damped by using mass or snakes. Simply push a snake into the interior of the bars which will absorb vibrations, from my personal experience I'd suggest starting with non venomous ones till you get the hang of handling them. Snake = a coiled spring works well on two strokes. I use a pair of rubber coated springs on my compound bow to absorb shock and damp it generally.
Bar end weights can change steering damping too. Practical experiment is take a stout stick, hold at its centre balance point and twist with a deft wrist action... Spins easily. OK now add some weight at both ends and repeat, it takes more effort to start the movement. Problem is once its moving it also takes more effort to stop it moving too!
Which is better, CF of course, looks tricker therefore has got to be faster and better. This is more of a zen effect due to your general feeling of well being and blissful joy at having such cool looking accessories :D

I dont have a problem with snakes but spiders I dont dig at all...I aint gonna stand for none of them living on my bike and crawling down my trousers when Im hittin the road up...
Thanks for the talk through on the physics of bar ends it all makes sence now:)
