S4 Oil Ring

Just rebuilding the top end whilst in the process of curing the base gasket oil leak. The Oil ring is very difficult to get in the bore without the aid of ring compressor, the expander is very difficult to compress, never come across one so difficult.

Anyone else struggled with getting the oil ring in the bore?

Just done my 900 and had no probs with any of the rings....

have it on good authority the oil rings are much tighter in the bore as compared to Jap engines which I am more used to.

I used a strip of aluminium wrapped around the piston and held closed with a pair of mole grips. Made it from some scrap sheet I had lying around.

so you did use a ring compressor and there is me thinking it can be done without!
