Just got one of these:

BenQ 17" LCD with DVI input (http://www.savastore.com/productinfo/product.aspx?product_id=10281546&catalog_name=Savastore&page=productspecification&pid=206&MSCSProfile=E88FF544888F07618470FCBD21778583833D4A 188B2DCA38FA1AEC62AA89052EBC09354A16B71E35DA6F7AD1 CE555FBD507806B6E34CE4674308C0D79C7485942F5FB9341C 286D33AD99C09CF46A9045331C927AEC381AD6438BD7371223 F6EF4CB10430131A152FFA11703882EDEE1096AD663ADE6DE4 A64F098AB110276AAB47F125A7BE113258)

for £152 with the DVI cable. Went into the store , but it is simply an over the counter affair like Argos, so no point doing that. Great display, especially through the DVI (you can have the regular VGA lead (supplied) as well if you wish). Would recommend it to anyone looking for a cheap decent TFT monitor upgrade. DVD's play fine and my online game I play is so much more vivid and detailed. The only limitation now is my graphic card. A bargain!!

Superb for the money. :D Any dead pixels? :p

16ms response is a bit slow these days but I paid well over £300 for a 15" not so long ago.
The DVI input is nice and it makes a big difference on photographs etc.

what is crt?

Cathode Ray Tube, the old type of monitor.
They are FAR superior than tfts/Lcds, especially for games.
Tfts/Lcds will catch up eventually I asume.

oh them... maybe a while back but they have already overtaken didge?! hence the 23 inch widescreen g5 mac monitors that we (and everyone else) use for film/graphics work?

They're getting there.
For pure quality a decent CRT is still the way to go but a DVI TFT with a sub 8ms response is very close indeed.

The plus sides are small footprints, easier on the eye and no electromagnetic radiation issues. :burnout:

No deads pixels, and no apparent ghosting, so 16ms fine for me. They did have some 3ms but at £250, which i can't be arsed with.

CRT better? Bollards, I just carried my ex 19" downstairs into my car and almost got a hernia. LCD was under my arm on the way up and not noticable. Wins every time for me...

Now I need that HD 50" screen I saw....
