Well, yesterday (Tuesday 8th Nov.), was my old Dad's funeral. No priest or other bull, just family and a few friends. It went really well, and the Funeral Director came up to us afterwards, and said it was one of the nicest services he'd seen.
During the wake, the phone rang, and it was a message for my sister-in-law, saying that her Mum had fallen over and broken her arm in 2 places. So off she went to the hospital.
One of my sisters left with her bloke and daughter a few hours later, and were involved in a collision with 2 horses and five cars on the Caterham by-pass. The horses had run off from their field and got on the dual carraigeway, one of which got hit at 60 mph by a car that had just overtaken my sisters car. The horse, apparently exploded on impact, and although my sisters car was not damaged, she said it was covered in bits of the unfortunate nag. It was quite gross according to her.
The other horse was hit by a car, a little further back.
Tomorrow, we're taking Dad's ashes to Eastbourne, his town of birth, and then it's off to a pub for a final drink in his memory.
We'll be keeping a beady eye out for any stray horses on the way there and back. Besides, I prefer my meat as a nice cut steak, I'm not that keen on minced meat.

When it rains it pours. Glad no one got hurt (worse than the broken arm).
Horses are vicious, ride a bike instead, but you know that.
Glad the service was nice. Good goodbyes are important.

. Good goodbyes are important.

Absolutely. My Nan came in to her humanist celebration of life service to "It had to be you" and out to "Jailhouse Rock". Smashing.

Didge, it sounds like quite a strange day.

All the best.

A friend of mine who I work with (knocks up the coffins) is about your age Didge, and he had 'Run To The Hills' by Iron Maiden played as the going out music at his dad's funeral 2 years back. As an added bonus one of the band members was there (drummer I think) as he was a mate of his dad's! Got som efunny looks at the crem, but at the end of the day it's your ceremony, so do it as you see fit.

Glad it went well. Well, almost anyway...

Hi Space, long time no speak. We had the theme tune from Steptoe & Son playing in the background at the service, as he loved that, and could do a perfect impression of both the characters. Made things a little more light hearted as well, which helps a lot.
