My ol' Dad died last Saturday. Fortunately, no pain, he just drifted off in the arms of one of my sisters who had flown over from Oz to see him.
The staff in the (wonderful) nursing home, all loved him, and said what a lovely man he was for his gentlemanly manner and sense of humour.
The funeral has been arranged for next Tuesday, and I probably won't be back on here again until sometime after that day.

Really feel for you Didge- I must say though I can really see your father in you. They say our relatives live on through us and that is definitely the case with you. My thoughts are with you and your family

Thanks to all of you who've expressed sympathy for the passing of my ol' Dad, and to those of you who sent me PMs. I have shown them to my siblings, and they are VERY touched, so I write this from all of us.
Unfortunatly, the planned trip to Eastbourne never happened, as he was just too weak to travel, but we visited him daily (sometimes twice daily), and he was never short of company.
Jan came with me on a few occasions, and he made her laugh more than once. Forever the bloody comedian and pi ss-taker that he was.
He loved the stage, and in his younger days, he appeared in many (fairly small) variety shows, and his interest in stage life never waned.
He was a bloody good impersonater of many famous and not so famous people, and also an excellent musician, and he could play all of the following instruments extremely well :-
Guitar, Banjo, Ukelele, Mouth Organ, Piano Accordian, Trumpet, Trombone, Sax, Claranet, Drums & Organs. For those of you old enough to remember them, he could even play those massive Wurlitzer organs that had 3 or 4 keyboards, dozens of pull-out stops and pedals, and used to rise from under the stage in the old cinemas. I remember him telling me, that playing those was not easy, as the air pipes were so high up the wall, that you were actually playing 2 or 3 notes ahead of what you could hear coming out of the pipes.
I'm sure that if he'd had the right breaks, he would have got somewhere in the entertainment business, but it is a VERY cut-throat industry, and having to raise five of us did not help I suppose.
We are also very grateful that he was a hoarder, as it has taken many hours to sift through hundreds of old family photographs that we all thought had been lost during the many moves that we made over the years, especially during the 60's. They have reawakened many fond memories.
Once again, many thanks for the kind words.
