Arrived today, threw it on to see what it looks like. Fits ok, needs a bit of modifying but not much. However will have to lose the side panels and angle grind the lugs off and to tidy it up properly the pillion rails will have to go too. The wiring will need to be re-routed a little, very minor and I'll go from there.

Thanks MrC, shall I take that as a compliment?
Try to imagine it painted dark met grey to match frame and front of tank with similar art work to tank and the seat covered in charcoal alcantara and that will be the finished article.
Also the exhaust system is going, replaced by a 2 to 1 and hopefully fitted higher up or under seat if I can, that should also make it look better.

Early stages but thanks for your opinion
Stuart

yeah loose the panels..too much, I had to grind some lugs of after removing the airpods then later with the airbox swap for the ru's having a sparking angle grinder so close to a tank full of explosives made my pulse race a bit....

the seat looks quite proportioned actually?

Alex.

ps.just spoke to keihin bloke, should be in the post tomorrow.

Its all happenin here, just been to MK and picked up 2 into 1 stainless exhaust system that i'm hopin to get under the seat somehow. The lady I bought it from has her bike test tomorrow and didnt know about the club, so hopefully recruited a new member, unless shes now completely scared after meeting me.
And blow me, I get in and theres a message from er indoors mum to say shes finished my alcantara seat cover.

I need to sit down !!!

hmm, what do i say, what do i think, i cant decide?

I'm not a fan of the MV tail on moster as i told you but maybe its the angle or the fact its while and the back of the tank is too, i almost like it. Cant remember seeing one before without the bum pad on it, very odd.
As for making it dark, if you match the style of the tank it might look like a tank and a tail, but keep the design flowing through the tank to the tail, maybe introduce a new colour at the back. Keep the grey at the front, then blue, then white and maybe blend to red at the back or something and then the bike would look like a complete unit, not a few matching parts. Maybe i'm talking crap, back me up here AY.
Seat colour now is yuk, get the photoshop out and pick a few, youd be shocked at what colour you might like.
Nice to see someone getting personal with their bike tho. Always a pleasure.

Wow, that looks fantastic! How much did the re-covering cost? I'd like to get my SS seat re-done.

Silly question perhaps - is the alcantara porous? In other words, am I likely to incurr a damp behind if the bike is used or left out in the wet?

cheers,

Nik

I bought the material on e-bay, it was foam backed alcantara from an Italian guy who allegedly got it from the Ferrari factory. Luckily for me my mother in law does that sort of sewing machine thingy. I think shes done a great job but she says she wouldnt do it again. It was a bit tricky apparently due to alcantara not having the capacity to stretch very far in comparison to vinyl.
Apparently it is waterproof but does get a bit slimey when wet. However being strictly a fair weather rider I'm not bothered.
CK has an alcantara cover and I think Jim66 might. They might be better placed to advise you on its waterproofing qualities.

I'm off to see the guy whos going to paint my helmet and MV tail tomorrow. He's got an NVQ you know.

This is how it looks at present with the alcantara seat now on.

While the bits are away being painted its to work with the angle grinder and fitting the new exhaust that I bought from Kitty.75. Its a 2 into 1 Predator system that I'm going to try to fit under the seat. Then the conundrum of what to do with the no plate??? Any ideas??

Alcantara in the wet............

AK uses his bike in most weathers (tho not often intentionally in the rain  ).
When the alcantara does get wet, it only gets slightly slippy in extreme wet (like the monster w/end in 2004! ) - but no more than the usual vinyl covered seat, when you are in waterproofs anyway.

It dries overnight & is fine the next day to sit on. Only once was it a little 'soggy' but that was after a 4 hour drenching ride, with the bike being left out all night in the rain, the night before too.
Can mark tho with oils etc, so go careful with spreading your sticky paws ;) when doing mucky jobs.
AK's seat still looking good, and been on the road almost 2 years now

C :)

Any luck yet Alex[/QUOTE] hopefully, the next problem was that the bank in the states is charging him to cash the draft, I hada shout at my idiot bank who suggested I send another draft to cover the charges on his end....I slapped them about and explained that that would cost me a tenner and he would get charged again (fools...rich fools) thankfully my sister lives in San Francisco and sent him a dollar cheque on tues to cover his charges (I should just sort out my paypal password really..) I have a few things that need doing some by a proper mechanic chap and I am on hold as I want the carbs in first. Although like a good trooper she is soldering on no problem despite the weather! I think the seat unit comes down a litttle too low at the front? is there anyway of trimming it to line up with the tank?

Alex.

I know what you mean but that is the line of the seat so it cant really be trimmed that much. It would have been better had it continued down to meet the tank. If you understand my meaning
