Excuse my ignorance but I'm looking to fit some race cans to my 2002 S4. I think I'm right in saying that a change of exhaust/cans on carb aspirated engines sometimes require rejetting, but what of fuel injected engines. Is there any adjustment to be made or can the 'cans' simply be fitted? Now to really show my ignorance. Will I need to re-fit any exhaust seals or is it a just a case of taking the original cans off and fitting the new ones?

If you are just changing the cans, the EFi should be able to compensate with no need for adjustment (mine did when I fitted Carbon Can Co cans to my 620 originally - infact it seemed to run much better!) - although with a proper EFi set up, you can fine tune it even further...

You really only need to consider ECU change/powercommander etc if you also open up the airbox with a free-flow filter for example, as this changes the fuel/air mixture more dramatically...

PS. As for fitting them, some have a gauze crush washer in the joint (that would usually need replacing each time), but most just slip in and clamp up - although you might want to use a squidge of silicon exhaust paste around the join to make sure... x

Jmo's spot on there but if you do upgrade go for the Power Commander rather than the Ducati ECU as you can mess with the mapping, have a custom map made with your bike on a dyno if you wish and even sell it on for use on another bike, something the Ducati item can't do. If you're just after noise then go ahead, plug and play and leave the air box alone.

By the way, I've got 50+ sets of DP cans just come in for various monsters if you're after a deal.....examples at http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZspareshackQ2dcom but I've quite a few more in stock.

Cheers

So, in essence, I need only consider an ECU change/power commander if altering the air flow by changing the filter. That all makes perfect sense. As I’m not looking to achieve more power from the S4, or at least not for now (more than enough to scare myself) and only looking to achieve a bit more of a raunchy sound, I’ll go with fitting the cans when I get them (and thanks for the link Stuart). I’ll see if I can get away with some silicon exhaust paste. Thanks for that.

I've just finished unbolting a pair of Hi-level Sils from Chappers 600 and fitting them onto my 2002 S4. Practically just bolted on with just a small mod required to one of the brackets to line up with a bolt (cheers Doc!). Not only do they sound absolutely glorious  , but they look sexy as hell from the rear, and we all like a sexy rear...right! :D

It runs so much better at 30-40mph than the crappy restricted standard cans (no lumpiness or jerking) and the power still launches in at the same crazy rate as before. It doesn't even pop or bang if you blast it up to 8,000 revs and then just snap the throttle shut.

Thanks once again Chappers for giving me first refusal on your cans, couldn't be happier and still grining! Now wheres the Solvol and Boot Polish! :D :D :burnout:

Steve, I have recently purchased a pair of low level Sil Motor Carbon Race cans for my S4 from eBay for £140. They haven’t arrived yet, so I can’t remark on their sound, quality or otherwise. However, I can say with some reservation, that I haven’t been this excited since I fitted a Peco big bore exhaust to my Lotus Cortina Mk I. Here I commmmmmmmmMMMMe.
